Discuss this Rant at the Podcast Table inside the Diner

Snippet:

Big-Lie…In a recent rant I titled “Twilight in Amerika”, I covered the non stop LIES spit out by POTUS Telepromptus Obama-sama in his SOTU speech, the annual Big Lie pitched at the population to keep them happy for another year while they are further impoverished and otherwise reamed by the Politicians and Banksters that run Da Goobermint here.

The main lies covered in that Rant were the economic ones, that the Amerikan Economy is Recovering, we are GROWING and we are doing even better than Morning in Amerika of the Ronald Rayguns years, now it’s a fucking Sunny Afternoon in Amerika, we are on the cusp of Energy Independence and the bullshit numbers produced by the Bureau of Lies & Statistics and the Energy Disinformation Agency can be believed!

I covered a few of the Geopolitical false narratives also, like the nonsense that we have had any success whatsoever with the War on Terror, that the trillions of dollars we’ve pitched down the toilet in Afghanistan and Iraq have done a goddamn thing to fix up that clusterfuck, and that anybody in the State Department or Military has a fucking clue how to dig us out of the hole dug here over the last few decades…

For the rest, LISTEN TO THE RANT!!!

So how about that four trillion dollar budget Obama-sama just proposed for the next fiscal year? That figure made even my eyebrows raise just a little bit! 😆

  • Surly says:

Understood. Yet it’s important to keep in mind that the “dollar” is now worth $.03 compared to its worth at the formation of the Federal Reserve. Still a lot of money, but the debt still has to be looked at in terms of its relation to GNP.

  • RE says:

More important than Debt to GDP is the trajectory of the curve, which is going exponentially upward over time.

    http://dailysignal.com/wp-content/uploads/federal-budget-deficits-606.jpg

Basically, we can never pay down the debt, just keep borrowing to pay for unfunded liabilities. As long as the borrowed money comes with Zero Interest, theoretically possible, but at some point the resources won’t be there at a price the debt will buy. Then you have the distribution problem, aka getting the money into the hands of the consumers.

The lie here is that you could fix the budget deficits by cutting SS and Medicaire, but you can’t, because those are enormous contributors to the GDP. Imagine if you cut off all SS. then those consumers have no money to buy anything. Cut off Medicaire and Obamacare, and the whole medical-pharmaceutical industry crashes.

It’s a treadmill you can’t get off until it finally does crash.

  • Mister Roboto says:

What I want to know is, why do all these libertarian types who want to cut SS and Medicare always conveniently ignore the unbelievably huge, bloated military budget?

    The Big Lie: 5.6% Unemployment

    by Jim Clifton

Here’s something that many Americans — including some of the smartest and most educated among us — don’t know: The official unemployment rate, as reported by the U.S. Department of Labor, is extremely misleading.

Right now, we’re hearing much celebrating from the media, the White House and Wall Street about how unemployment is “down” to 5.6%. The cheerleading for this number is deafening. The media loves a comeback story, the White House wants to score political points and Wall Street would like you to stay in the market.

None of them will tell you this: If you, a family member or anyone is unemployed and has subsequently given up on finding a job — if you are so hopelessly out of work that you’ve stopped looking over the past four weeks — the Department of Labor doesn’t count you as unemployed. That’s right. While you are as unemployed as one can possibly be, and tragically may never find work again, you are not counted in the figure we see relentlessly in the news — currently 5.6%. Right now, as many as 30 million Americans are either out of work or severely underemployed. Trust me, the vast majority of them aren’t throwing parties to toast “falling” unemployment.

There’s another reason why the official rate is misleading. Say you’re an out-of-work engineer or healthcare worker or construction worker or retail manager: If you perform a minimum of one hour of work in a week and are paid at least $20 — maybe someone pays you to mow their lawn — you’re not officially counted as unemployed in the much-reported 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

Yet another figure of importance that doesn’t get much press: those working part time but wanting full-time work. If you have a degree in chemistry or math and are working 10 hours part time because it is all you can find — in other words, you are severely underemployed — the government doesn’t count you in the 5.6%. Few Americans know this.

There’s no other way to say this. The official unemployment rate, which cruelly overlooks the suffering of the long-term and often permanently unemployed as well as the depressingly underemployed, amounts to a Big Lie.

And it’s a lie that has consequences, because the great American dream is to have a good job, and in recent years, America has failed to deliver that dream more than it has at any time in recent memory. A good job is an individual’s primary identity, their very self-worth, their dignity — it establishes the relationship they have with their friends, community and country. When we fail to deliver a good job that fits a citizen’s talents, training and experience, we are failing the great American dream.

Gallup defines a good job as 30+ hours per week for an organization that provides a regular paycheck. Right now, the U.S. is delivering at a staggeringly low rate of 44%, which is the number of full-time jobs as a percent of the adult population, 18 years and older. We need that to be 50% and a bare minimum of 10 million new, good jobs to replenish America’s middle class.

I hear all the time that “unemployment is greatly reduced, but the people aren’t feeling it.” When the media, talking heads, the White House and Wall Street start reporting the truth — the percent of Americans in good jobs; jobs that are full time and real — then we will quit wondering why Americans aren’t “feeling” something that doesn’t remotely reflect the reality in their lives. And we will also quit wondering what hollowed out the middle class.

Jim Clifton is Chairman and CEO at Gallup.

My own experience is relevant here. For a long time recently; over two years, I was on the bench unemployed and uncounted. I was not looking for a job by the wisdom of the federal bean counters and smiling suits. So what happened? Was I walking down the street and did a good fairy sprinkle pixy dust on me in spite of sloth, poor attitude, and desire to skate through life on a free ride?

No, on the days I was not totally paralized by defeat I was looking hard and interviewing my ass off. Being overqualified for minimum wage meant I was totally fucked. I’d have been happy with any job when the funk of defeat loomed like a large hot sun over my head and I have a professional background that the young are still brainwashed into beliving has a great unlimited future but in fact has been withering away on the vine for years. I did not have even the advantage of being young and dumb. My options were way down in zip city and I wasn’t getting any love anywhere. Finally against all odds I got lucky. Very very lucky with a very good job.

But if I lost this job tommorrow would I be counted as unemployed?

No I have not been working long enough. Rules for unemployment have been made more stringent and it will be months before I’m counted as unemployed again should a sling and arrow of outrageous fortune perforate my ass.

I wish the big lies wouldn’t fly but unlike pigs, they do!

  • K Dog says:

    @ Mister Roboto

Perhaps because they are afraid that ISIS will swim the Atlantic and chop off their head or burn them to death in a cage? Perhaps because they being libertarian, maintain that they have a ‘right’ to drive (and still do) over 200 miles a week. That to preserve their right to drive they need the military to fill the gas tank in their Hummer?

That is a good question Mister Roboto. Another answer might be that they are idiots.

  • Carlos Jimenez says:

Your commentaries, R.E., are getting better all the time, I prefer listening to you rather than reading because you spike your voice with that fucking anger that we -well, the ones of us that don’t buy the daily bullshit- feel. And you do it very well. Thks.

  • RE says:

    Thanks CJ!

Revving up the rhetoric in audio by injecting the emotion is something that cannot be done with the Written Word, no matter how many “fucks” you drop in the text.

When you speak it though, you can convey the emotion, and I think even people who do not understand English grasp how pissed off I get at this stuff. 👿

No lack of material here these days to rant on either, so I should have plenty next week as the Euro goes down the Toilet. 🙄
