The Mystery Prep Challenge Contest
« on: July 26, 2017, 08:38:26 AM »
Nobody picked up on this from my Santa Claus post in the Total Eclipse of the SUN☼ thread, so I am trying again here.  ::)

One of the Preps I got in shipments yesterday was what you see below.  This is a bigger more detailed view of it. Click the image to see full size.  Actual dimensions are ~4" in length and 1/2" diameter.

Mystery Prep
Mystery Prep

To review the Hints:

1- Its use is for Boondocking in SaVANnah
2- Despite looking simple, it's fairly High Tech
3- It cost $25

To WIN the contest, you must correctly identify what it is and what I will use it for.

Remember, if you WIN the contest, you get a DOUBLE Diner Kewpie Doll Award!  :icon_sunny:

I will have an article and video on this in the future after I finish the Heating & Cooling stuff.

Is there some other way to show the picture? It isn't showing up in my browser. Love the Savannah stories by the way.

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
And stars fill my dream
Iím a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

You're halfway there with the magnets.  :icon_sunny:

These are super powerful neodymium mags.  To pull one of them off the stack you pretty much have to use pliers.

Now, what will they be used for?

:hi: to the Diner fellow Alaskan!  :icon_sunny:

I think you couldn't see the pic because of your Rookie membership status.  I upgraded you to regular member.  I think you should be able to see it now.

BINGO! AZ WINS the Double Kewpie!  :icon_sunny:

As I mentioned, when living in a vehicle one of your BIGGEST problems is the small space you are confined to in just the vehicle itself.  This is why Micro-Campers are no good for long term OTR living.

When parked though, you can increase living space TREMENDOUSLY with awnings and beach umbrellas like my Big Brolly.

Now, for SaVANnah I could get a really cool high tech electric powered roll out awning.

They have some deficiencies though.

1- They are fucking EXPENSIVE!

2- They ruin the "stealth" aspect of your Van.  A rolled up awning on the side of a Van is a sure sign somebody lives in it even if it is not deployed.

3- Hardware needs to be drilled in and attached to the Van to mount them.  This can result in leaks.

So I wanted a means to mount my Tarps (CHEAP!) on the van without permanently attaching any hardware and with the ability to stow everything inside SaVANnah when not using them to maintain maximum Stealth.  The Magnets (plus cheap clips I use) perform this function.  They are quick and EZ to mount on SaVANnah, and I think it would take Hurricane Force winds to pull them off.  I have two tarps, one for the Side Doors and 1 for the Rear Doors.  This will more than double my living space with no construction, although I will still build the Geodesic Gazebo in addition to this.

I will get another 200 sq ft of living space for practically nothing this way!  :icon_sunny:  Rainy days will be no issue.  I can put up Mosquito Netting to keep the bugs out while keeping SaVANnah open and airy if it is hot out.  ;D

You got your dolls.  :icon_sunny:

Ed and UB do not get dolls.  You had to both identify the prep and say what it would be used for.  Only you got both parts, and also got it first.  So you are the clear WINNER of this prepping contest.

I was actually about to write that before, say that u dont want a pull out awning because it is more obvious campervan, and u can attach tarps to the van with the magnets, keeping water from dripping between the van and extra room, fairly obvious. Then i remembered you saying you are only doing a dome and not the cube as well because its too much room. I figured the dome cant sit flat against the van, so didnt post. Based on premise a dome is being done to show the naysayers without any square living space, the answer cant be right.

U dont need any cheap clips, just fold thetarp under the magnet. Easier to pull off and wont chip paint.
