Prosciutto, Chanterelle Mushrooms and Mozzarella Panini

Yes, But their prices are absolutely OUTRAGEOUS.

It must be nice to be rolling in dough.  :icon_mrgreen:

The Good News is at the Diner lunch table, we both can claim the Senior Citizen Discount.

Which means RE won't spit in our paninis.  :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

I have two of them a small one like pictured and a very large one.

Best cooking utensil ever invented in my opinion. Highly recommended.

Cooks beautifully, BOTH SIDES AT ONCE, Grease drips off in fatty meats.

Sausages and peppers cook through to the center and these wonderful grille lines are on the meat.

Best two items I ever bought for the kitchen.

Buy one today if you don't have one.

Best two items I ever bought for the kitchen.

It's a great industrially produced electricity dependent cooking tool, but I am not sure it's the best.

Also high on the list of these things are a Food Processor

Slow Cooker

Waffle Iron

and of course, the Microwave Oven!

How did we ever survive without microwaves?  ???   :icon_scratch:

Forgot about the Microwave.

Use it so much, especially to heat up my coffee that I don' even think about it.

The other items are of no use to me, but my old lady likes to play around with that stuff.

I cook on the Foreman, she cleans it when I'm done, you could say we share it.   ;D

Here's another truly fabulous one, the Electric Smoker!  :icon_sunny:

You REALLY keep your costs down if you like stuff like Pastrami, Smoked Turkey, Nova & Lox Salmon etc.   Drop it on the porch, smoke for a few hours and POOF! fabulous dinner!  Also Lunch and Breakfast meals too.  I smoked some Baby Back Ribs for the 2nd Diner Convocation in Saluda, NC.  Big Hit!  :icon_sunny:

Here in the FSoA, having the Easter Bunny for your Doomer Dinner is not all that common, but it is elsewhere in the world.  Like Chickens, Rabbits were domesticated as a source of food, unlike Dogs & Cats which were domesticated to be helpers for Homo Sap.  I have cooked Bugs Bunny (or hare) a few times when I nailed one with my slingshot.  Best slow cooked in a stew as the meat is somewhat tough.

Slingshot or sling hunting rabbits is a really good way to get one, because your ammo (rocks OK, marbles or steel shot better but probably tough to come by after SHTF Day) are better because they fly straighter.  None of them actually penetrate the rabbit, so you don't taint the meat with the guts spilling into it.  It just lames the rabbit so it makes it easy to catch.  The alternative method is to trap it.  Either way, you should dispatch it to the Great Beyond ASAP after nailing it, because the longer it is suffering the more hormones get into the meat, plus it is just being a little more humane to the rabbit.  Here's a good video primer on how to skin & part out a rabbit.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/5Uj68y0pefo" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/5Uj68y0pefo</a>

Besides the meat, Bugs Bunny also provides great fur for things like hats and gloves.  I have a great Rabbit Fur hat and Musher's Mittens.  Probably takes around 4-6 rabbits to make them.  Mine were made by a professional furrier, I've never done that myself.  You can also make Lucky Rabbits Foot charms from them.  :icon_sunny:  Feed the guts to your dogs.  No waste!

🦌 Doomstead Diner Dinner Special: 2/18/2018
« Reply #326 on: February 18, 2018, 07:52:45 PM »
For our final Dinner in our week long Doomer Food series, we move to the TOP of the food chain possible for Doomers after SHTF Day arrives.  Well not QUITE the top, since Cannibalism is possible, but we won't go there.  Accordin to Hannibal the Cannibal, Homo Saps are good with Fava Beans and a little Chianti, but I can't verify that or get any pics on Google.   I can't find good recipes and pics for cooking people. lol.

The top possible here excluding other humans is Big Game of the Mammal kind.  This stuff will be relatively difficult to come by, at least until a good portion of humanity goes to the Great Beyond.  So if you can eat it with the rest of your tribe once a week you will be doing pretty good.  What is actually available to hunt down also depends a lot on your neighborhood.  Up here in Alaska, we have a good selection from Moose, Caribou and Bear.  In Texas I read, feral pigs are multiplying fairly rapidly.  Across the Northeast, Deer multiply pretty rapidly since about all their natural predators have been killed off.

For this meal, we will go with Bambi for Dinner, because there are lots of good recipes and pics for Venison!  :icon_sunny:

🐷 Doomstead Diner Breakfast Special: 2/19/2018
« Reply #327 on: February 19, 2018, 05:54:37 AM »
As Eddie mentioned, the usual breakfast meat here in the FSoA comes from Porky the Pig. 🐷  Bacon 🥓 is probably the most common, with Sausage 🥖 coming in 2nd.  However, for a real Piggy Breakfast, a nice thick Ham Steak with your Eggs will get you started on the day nicely.  :icon_sunny:

RE

Ribeye Steak Panini

I just don't love the bread they make those out of. If it has to be a panini, at least put it on real baguette, and not foccacia or ciabatta.
