🍝 Doomstead Diner Dinner: 3/20/2019

ANTHONY!
It's Pasta Wednesday again here on the Italian North End of the Diner!

I decided to limit my own Cooking Zone shows to just 1/week.  I was giving myself way too much work.  I'm supposed to be RETIRED!  lol.

During the rest of the week though, I'll continue to feature recipes and techniques from other Cooking Shows around the web to enjoy visually and maybe even try yourself at home.  Today we are going with the Master Chef of 18th Century Cooking John Townsend and his Mac & Cheese from the early years of the Culinary Arts.  You might want to bone up on 18th Century cooking, it could come in handy after SHTF Day.

Boeuf Bourginon!

With today's Guest Chef, Marco Pierre White.

Boeff Bourginon is a dish I never tried cooking, and I'm going to make a stab at it with some variations from the way Marco does it.  I'm going to combine a few old and new techniques to hopefully get this the way I envision it.  It's a real culinary challenge for me!  :icon_sunny:

It will be a while before it comes up on the Cooking Zone though, I have worked up a big backlog of cooking vids.  I may go to 2/week to try and catch up.

That's the Diner Private Jet that Soros gave us to go globe trotting to find the best recipes.  :icon_sunny:  It's a modified Embraer E175.  Brazilian manufacture.

The Cooking Zone SNAP Card Gourmet
Surf & Turf

With today's Resident Crippled Chef, RE.

The cooks for both the Shrimp & Scallops Scampi and the Sous Vide Short Ribs with Portabella Mushrooms in Cabernet Sauce will come up on the Cooking Zone show in due time, not sure when though because I have a long queue of already done shows in the can.  I couldn't resist showing off the SCRUMPTIOUS results to the Diners early though. 😋

Not only does this Surf & Turf look & taste great, I also got it in under the SNAP Card budget of $5/day!  How much does your local eatery charge for their S&T?

This also fits for Pasta Wednesday, since the Scampi is served with Linguine.  :icon_sunny:

The Cooking Zone Breakfast Gourmet
Surf & Turf

If Surf & Turf was good enough for Dinner last week, how about for Breakfast this week?  This is another one you'll have to wait on for a while to see the full cook, but the amazing part of it is this fixes up in about the same time it takes to make Bacon & Eggs.  How do you do that?

The Cooking Zone Best Shrimp-on-the-Barbie EVAH!

Spring has Sprung here on the Last Great Frontier, the ice on the ramp to my back porch has melted off and it is once again safe for cripples to go outside and cook again!  :icon_sunny:  I did my first BBQ  which I put up a vid on the cook of a Ribeye Steak , yesterday I went out to do some Shrimp-on-the-Barbie.  FABULOUS!  You will have to wait for the vid though, it's well back in the queue.  The Top Secret Diner Marinade will be revealed in the video.

Said Shrimpies are going for all 3 meals, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  Very versatile and they reheat well, although microwaving is not recommended for your reheating method.

As a result of this labor, I didn't have time to work on my Newz Source Survey yesterday.  Hopefully get to it today.

The Cooking Zone Shrimp-on-the-Barbie Mediterranean Salad!

Here's today's Lunch from the Shrimp-on-the-Barbie in the fridge.  :icon_sunny:

Additions include leaf lettuce, tomatoes, kalamatta olives, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm and feta cheese.

No reheating necessary!  The shrimp is great cold too!

The Cooking Zone Shrimp-on-the-Barbie Breakfast Plate

Here's today's Breakfast from the Shrimp-on-the-Barbie in the fridge.  :icon_sunny:

I went with Sunny Side Up this morning for 2 reasons:

1-  It looks good in pictures and very "eggy"

2- I haven't made them this way in quite some time.  I'm usually a scrambled or over-EZ egg consumer.

Leftover Baked Potato with melted Mozzarella, a microwave special as the breakfast carbo.

Shrimp here not reheated, but not cold either, served at room temperature, where it also is still good.

The Cooking Zone 18th Century Beef Stew

It's Meat Monday here on the Diner again!

Guest Chef today is John Townsend, recently back from a trip to 1750 in his Mr. Fusion powered Time-Travelling DeLorean.  I asked Soros for one of these for the Diner, but so far he hasn't come through.  I'm grateful for the Embraer though, it's great!  :icon_sunny:

Today JT cooks for us an 18th Century "middle class" stew, which isn't a whole lot different from a beef stew you would make today, except for his outfit, kitchen decor and cooking tools.  You'll get this stew done a lot faster with an Instapot!

Brisket Teriyaki

No, that's not Corned Beef and no that pink color is not from Sodiun Nitrite (curing salt)

That is Brisket done as a Teriyaki, and it's RARE!.  How did Chef RE make a rare & tender, juicy Brisket out of a usually tough cut of meat?  ???  :icon_scratch:

You'll have to wait for the SECRET until it comes up in the Cooking Zone Queue, now sometime into June or so in backlog.  ::)

ANTHONY!  Pasta Wednesday has arrived again!

Not all Pasta is Italian, you know.  Noodle dishes are super popular all over Asia too!

For today, we're taking another restaurant tour with Mike from Strictly Dumpling, this time to Kyoto Japan.  Noodles down a Bamboo Slide!  LD would be in Food Heaven.  lol.

Gorgeous scenery in this one.
