Is this similar to wearing a hair shirt? Or perhaps to self flogging in the Middle Ages?  Does this relate to acquiring insight or vision? Maybe you could elaborate . That would be very instructive to understand your view as to why this was appropriate here. Especially considering the self indulgence of American culture in general as the absolute opposite of anything pertaining to self sacrifice or asceticism. Or any voluntary abstinence of any hedonistic pleasure actually! Most interesting post!
