We Have the CIA to Thank for the QAnon Conspiracy Theory

By Jefferson Morley, Independent Media Institute

I had read the Morley piece and started to post it myself. Glad you did.

I think there's some truth there. Quite a bit, actually. But it seems to me to be a reductionist argument. It hasn't JUST been that the Warren Commission report was a big lie, which almost any interested person of reasonable intelligence would have to conclude. It has to do with a long list of wars we've rushed into on the pretext of furthering (supposedly) worthwhile goals like democratic government, which we don't even really have here.

It probably feels much better to think your son died in a rice paddy in Viet Nam or bleeding out into the desert dust of Iraq in furtherance of the good of the world, than it does to realize your son died so Exxon could show better 3rd quarter profits or shareholders at Northrop-Grumman could benefit from really good missile sales.

So it's appealing to regular people to believe comforting bullshit rather than disturbing truths, and every American President in my lifetime with the possible exception of Carter has used that kind of dishonest argument to take us into wars that are clearly in violation of international law and our own constitution.

Conspiracy theories are hard to debunk when almost anything you've ever been told by your own leadership amounts to deliberate lying for the purpose of furthering the agenda of a shadowy uberwealthy .1% of the population, who look upon their fellow citizens as cattle to be herded to market.

Morley is not wrong, he's just seeing a small piece of a much bigger pile of bullshit.

I agree abut Carter. So does Morris Berman.

The Craig Unger money laundering piece is the revelation I've been expecting since the election. I'm sure this is the real story of Trump and Putin.

I do think it's quite possible that Trump was "willfully blind" and that in his mind he did nothing but make some great deals on condos and make a lot of money. I doubt it goes so far as to make Trump a Putin puppet or some kind of Russian agent.

But...that doesn't make money laundering legal, and it doesn't make Trump innocent. It just means he was useful to Russian oligarchs trying to get cash out of Russia, and that he hasn't wanted to do anything to piss Putin off and cut off the favorable terms he's gotten from Russian lenders, or lose the Russian investors in his resort properties.

The problem is that the congress has appeared willfully blind too, to Trump's past. None of the investigations has even tried to look under this very obvious rock to see what's there. Even now, it is being studiously ignored. To me this is a failure of our system. It might have to do with how a whole lot of other people have similar skeletons in their closets, not necessarily from Russia....but maybe Israel, for one. Or from other various billionaires and banksters.

No surprises I'ts only a matter of time. I read Michael Wolff's book, and he quoted Bannon as saying "they'll get him for money laundering" when they announced a special prosecutor.

I saw something else that opined that Trump is so pliant in re Putin NOT because of what he knows Putin has on him so much as he's not sure what Putin has on him.
