Niall Ferguson On Brexit, Trump, and the Future
« on: December 30, 2018, 09:59:31 PM »
The prior video is part of a longer interview. I listened to this second part, which in which Ferguson discusses Brexit, the long term consequences of Brexit, Trump, and  American politics after Trump, which could be somewhat similar. I have said over and over here on the Diner that we will have a socialist government eventually, because the younger generation has been raised to believe in it, and because there has to be a strong backlash against this generation of misguided Republican strip-mining of the commons. It has to come. The only thing to prevent it might be a complete fast collapse.

The explanation of Brexit is the best one I've ever heard, and he does a pretty good job of breaking down the Trump phenomenon too. I'm going to say this once, and then I won't say it again, because I know I'm swimming against the tide with the Diner really, really careful what you're wishing for, because you are very likely to get it. But when you get it, I don't think you're going to like it, or even recognize it as what you thought it was going to be.
