Following Part 1's emergence from the civil war and the age of enlightenment; and Part 2's undertaking of the largest building phase in the country's history. Part 3 of the 4-part History Channel series takes us from the beginning of steel and oil having forever changed the face of America, to JP Morgan arriving on the scene and expedites growth through a magical thing called finance. From the Civil War to the Great Depression and World War I, for better or worse; for richer or poorer, in ethical and societal sickness or health; these five men - John D. Rockefeller, Cornelius Vanderbilt, Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford and J.P. Morgan - led the way.

RE,
Wow did not watch it all but everything I watched jives pretty well with your work on the diner.  What I wonder is how do people not connect the dots between that mainstream history and the present time we are in now??? i mean as if these entities just disappered??

"Resources that will help bring peace to the world."

Funny how all the actor moguls looked so handsome, while the real ones all look and sound like ogres. Jack Welch looks like he eats children for breakfast. I wonder if the History Channel ever heard of the Rothchilds, or the central bank all those moguls came together in 1913 to create? Can't really bite the hand that feeds ya, I guess.

Peace, they said there at the end. Is that what came of all that? My mistake. I thought it was crass consumerism, exponential growth and ecological devastation - population overshoot. Well when the herd gets culled 'cause they don't serve any purpose any more (to the moguls), they'll be glad to know I'm sure, that it was all about peace.

China teaches the world how to create a REAL housing bubble that will put the Japanese and US real bubbles to shame. Best part is due to the shoddy construction it is likely many of those empty properties will begin to collapse after 10 years or so.

Thanks, Monsta. Well worth the 11 minutes to view. Another reason our padron, RE, says China is TOAST!!

Perhaps you noted where the interviewee allowed how three generations of family savings typically go into the payment for one of those many, many vacant apartments. It will be interesting to watch the inevitable Chinese version of "extend and pretend."

Everyone's heard of the Chernobyl disaster but nonetheless this documentary is quite enlightening and is something I would recommend especially to those who are against nuclear energy:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/yk3-XUe0oEU&fs=1" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/yk3-XUe0oEU&fs=1</a>

One of the most powerful lines I found in this documentary which while used to explain the denial in this disaster is something that can easily be applied to the coming disasters:

"When the threat exceeds imagination we conclude the threat cannot be true." - 11:28

I think this sentence alone can explain the amount of denial we see today in not just the government mouth pieces (which is to be expected) but also J6P and perhaps even some sections of the peak oil aware community.

It's truth has cetainly been demonstrated in re Fukushima. Our government's concern for our health was such that they raised the acceptable levels of radiation, entered treaties to buy Japanese fish, and shuttered radiation monitoring stations. Nothing to see here citizen, keep moving . . .

Denial, like radiation, is now a nutritional supplement. A vitamin, if you will.

The Collapse film starring Michael Ruppert. Decent movie and a good way to get introduced to the views of Ruppert. Probably not much to learn for various Diners but to lurkers it could be worth a look:

I'm a fan of James Burke.  This is the series that first got me "thinking outside the box".

And this one (plus part two) is interesting.  It gives you an idea of what he though our present would be like.  He got a lot wrong, but hits the nail on the head pretty often.

Naomi Klein exposes the fallacies of free market philosophies as preached by the Chicago School of Economics. Critics say the cases she cite are not free market capitalism but corporatism run amok frankly I can't see the difference between the two. Free markets as seen in economic bibles and preached by priests does not and never did exist in real life.

Just turned up this review of a Documentary about Phil Ochs, with numerous excerpts.  Now I gotta see if the whole documentary is available on Amazon....

...OK appears to be yes, but retitled as "There But for Fortune".  Just ordered it.

Russian PM Not Joking: Extraterrestrials Live
Among Us According to MIB Documentary

ParadigmNews
December 22, 2012

Watch the documentary about 'Men in Black,' recently recommended by Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev.

On Friday, December 7, 2012 the current Russian Prime Minister and former President, Dmitry Medvedev, made some startling off-air comments to reporters while his microphone was still switched on.

When asked whether the President is given any secret files on extraterrestrials while in office, Medvedev not only commented that extraterrestrials are visiting the Earth, but that some are actually living among us. He went even further to say that the Russian documentary, "Secrets about Men in Black", could give one more details about this issue.

This report had previously been translated as a joke coming from the Prime Minister, as it'd been presumed he was referring to the Hollywood comedy franchise, 'Men In Black,' with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones.
