Travels with My Cripple Cart
« on: July 19, 2019, 08:16:00 AM »
I made it to Seattle! Only casualties so far is I lost my nice folding cane and a pair of cheap sunglasses.

Here's the rig ready to go through TSA Security for boarding after checking in my two FREE large suitcases since I am flying First Class on this trip.

Cripple Cart Airport
Cripple Cart Airport

Quite a production getting through security and both boarding and debarking. Not for Amateur Cripple Cart operators. lol. I'll write more about it after I get back to the Last Great Frontier. I also got some vids, but I will need to do some editing on some of them. That will wait until I get back also.

K-Dog got me at the airport, and after some struggles we managed to fit the Cripple Cart and all the Gear into the Mercedes. We had to bungee down the trunk though, couldn't close it with the Cripple Cart in it.

We had dinner at the Tatoosh Grill at the Casino. K-Dog had the Prime Rib, well done. Blecch. I had Steak Carpaccio Salad and Clam Chowder. Not enough steak in the salad but the clam chowder was good.

Dinner K dog RE
Dinner K dog RE

I head over to the Stone Cutters in a few hours to check out the FINALLY finished SUN Monument/RE Tombstone. Can't wait to see it finally DONE!

Much more coming soon to a laptop near you.

Travels with My Cripple Cart: Raw, Uncut Vid from the Plane Ride
« Reply #2 on: July 20, 2019, 01:15:50 AM »
Good Newz! My beloved Folding Cane turned up! Also the Cheap Sunglasses! :icon_sunny: I stuffed them in the Batt Bag for the plane ride and forgot I did that.

Awesome day today, great weather again and I finally got the long awaited look at the completed SUN☼ Monument/RE Tombstone. 2 years in the making, it is FANTASTIC! Everything I hoped for. You will have to wait for the pics & vids on this until after I get back home.

Breaking even on the Slot Machines which I hate but have to use to earn my Comp Card for the day at this Casino, which has no Table Games. Terrible odds on the slots. If I can stay even on them I'll be happy with that. Sunday I will go to the sister Casino down the road to play Blackjack and earn a Comp Card for their All-You-Can-Eat Lobster Buffet. Tomorrow I am meeting up with K-Dog & George Mobus for dinner at the top Steakhouse in Seattle, the Metropolitan Grill. I'm going to have their Prime Rib.

Here's a short vid I did on the plane and another at Sea-Tac Airport, unedited.

As regular Diners know, I'm currently down in Seattle-Tacoma working on Collapse Bizness. I'm completing the SUN☼ Monument, to carry the SUN☼ message and rules for Sustainable Living on Planet Earth to future generations, as well as testing my small EV battery systems for post-SHTF Day resilience and utility. Also had a dinner meeting with 2 fellow Kollapsniks, K-Dog of the Chasing the Squirrel blog and George Mobus of Question Everything. We had the dinner last night at the Emerald Queen Casino buffet in Tacoma, where I am staying. I got my dinner FREE (I met the 2 hour minimum time sitting at the slot machines to earn this perk), George & K-Dog hadda pay the $20. Good deal for me, since I only lost $1 while spinning the digital wheel once every 5 minutes or so. More about that in the videos.

So anyhow, not much time to write or even to do any video editing right now, but here are a couple of raw & unedited vids I did at the beginning and end of the day (one in the Header, the other below) for your enjoyment. 🙂

Collapse Biz Trip Day 4: The Big Ewz Marathon Test

Today's project on the Collapse Biz Trip was to do the most rigorous testing to date of the newly powered Ewz (aka "Cripple Cart") carrying the Full Monte of batteries, both Lithium-Ion (L-I) and Sealed Lead-Acid (SLA) for a total of 20 Amp-Hours (AH) fully charged. As the photo at left indicates, the Cripple Cart had its first live tests on the flight down to Seattle-Tacoma from Anchorage. Those tests were to determine the feasibility for a Solo Cripple to haul all his (massive) amount of baggage to the airport, around the airport and to get it through TSA Security and on the plane. Obviously, since I am now IN Tacoma, this test was successful.

In yesterday's testing, the objective was to see just how much distance I could travel around Tacoma on a single charge without mid-trip recharges. The video above is the first installment of several segments I made on this trip. It is raw video, unedited as of now since I don't really have time to do that until I return home to the Last Great Frontier. I will be putting up further raw videos Inside the Diner until I get home to do a full article (or more likely, articles) covering the various facets of this Collapse Biz Trip. These videos also can be found on the CollapseCafe.com Diner YouTube channel.

There will be further testing today, then I am scheduled to Jet Set back home on Tuesday, riding First Class 🙂 on Alaska Airlines. Look Inside the Diner for the up-to-the minute Play-by-Play reports to follow the EV projects of the Doomstead Diner and the Sustaining Universal Needs Foundation (SUN4Living.com).

Collapse Biz Trip Day 5: Taking the Cripple Cart on the Bus to Tacoma
« Reply #5 on: July 22, 2019, 05:57:42 PM »
I made it! I got to Tacoma on the public Bus system! $1 each way including the Cripple Cart. I'm currently eating an early dinner at the Pacific Grill, right next to the Convention Center. Free WiFi. I'm also recharging the Cripple Cart Batts and my phones and computer on the restaurant power for FREE. :icon_sunny: After I finish the meal, I'll do some Tacoma Exploring before catching the bus back to the Casino. Assuming I get back OK, I'll report further later tonight from the ZHotel Room.

This is great stuff RE! I have been working on electrifying my recumbent trike (well first it was a two wheel BikeE, now a 3-wheel nomad) since 2001. I would love to talk to you about amps and charge controllers. I am so impressed with your cripple cart. I am actually trying to peddle my trike now because the electric stuff is so heavy and tricky.
Reason for my writing though is to find out where Steve Ludlum has gone. Worried that he hasn't tweeted or posted for more than a week now.
Anyway, happy riding. Sounds like you are having fun. Any chance you could get some pedals on there so that you could get a little exercise? You look pretty healty!! Great great work.
Ride yourself to a nice swimming pool if you can when you get home.
Very best to you,
Ellen

Collapse Biz Trip Day 6: The Long Road Home
« Reply #8 on: July 24, 2019, 01:39:32 AM »
I made it! I am safely back in the digs here on the Last Great Frontier, with most of my stuff only a couple of minor lost items on the trip and one of my checked bags got damaged. More later on that story and the many others that come out of this adventure. I am major WIPED OUT tonight though, started at 6AM after only 3.5 hours of sleep. This trip has many blogs & vlogs to come out of it down the line. Endless video to edit.

For tonight, here's K-Dog loading the Cripple Cart into the Mercedes in the Casino Parking Lot. This time he got it wedged in well enough the trunk closed, no bungees necessary! :icon_sunny:.:

Here's me right after checking in my 2 FREE :icon_sunny: checked bags (1st Class Perk) with the Alaska Airlines Baggage dept, with the full load on the Cripple Cart of my carry-on bags and my mobility devices to be Gate-Checked on the Jetway (Cripple Cart & Walker/Trailer get Gate Checked):

I spoke to Steve a few months ago, to see if he wanted to revive the "Steve & RE Show" and chat up some economics. So far as I know he is still above ground and not pushing up daisies yet. However, we were unable to agree on a topic and Steve was more crotchety than ever. He never got back to me to try to work it out.

Pedals won't work on any of my designs at the moment. I would need to be able to disengage the motors so it could freewheel. K-Dog's Electric Bike design actually encourages pedaling, but it is substantially different from what I am doing. His designs would probably work better for you and the recumbent and your goals.

Modifying various kinds of bikes and scooters for EV can be a bit tricky, but it's not Rocket Science either. Put up a pic or two of your rig and I'll recommend modifications I would do for it.

We did better on the return trip than on the first pickup. Practice makes Perfect! :icon_sunny:

Besides the mobility devices, I of course carry a shitload of computer and camera equipment also. A Van or SUV works a lot better for this procedure. ::)

It's no Thanksgiving Poem/Song for the Cripple on the Move. Nice Gear Crash getting on the tram. Too big a gap between the Platform & the Train. The Trailer took a Dive. Tough Backing the Rig, harder than a Tractor-Trailer with this configuration. I am working on fixes.

Collapse Biz Trip: Loading your Cripple Cart to the Seattle Public Buses
« Reply #13 on: July 24, 2019, 07:38:23 PM »
Very tight turns! Not a hydraulic lift loader, it's a ramp system. Use only small, tight turning Cripple Carts on this system. Trikes better than Quads. FWD better than RWD. Some muscling may be necessary to lock it in the bus internal Cripple Cart parking spot. Once in though, it's a nice ride for only a Dollar for Cripples ($2 normal price). The Seattle Public Transit System however is not real good with keeping to the schedule.

🛫 Travels with My Cripple Cart: The Next Adventure
« Reply #14 on: July 25, 2019, 02:55:49 PM »
http://www.youtube.com/v/KP_MDIYhPH0

OK!
With my 1st Cripple Cart Globe Trotting Adventure now history, I am already planning the logistics for the next one, which will begin in about 1 month from now on my Birthday. :icon_sunny:

This one is really complicated, a 3-way trip to Springfield, MO first to see the SUN☼ Monument planted on its Eternal Resting Place, then to Yuma,Az/Los Algodones, Mejico to get tooth work done by my Mexican "El Cheapo" Dentista, then back here to the Last Great Frontier. The whole trip will take 3 weeks to a month to complete.

I tried to find a Dentist over in Europe in Italy or Spain who would work at reasonable prices, but they are only a little better there than here, you save maybe 40% on what the Criminal Amerikan Dentistas charge. In Old Mejico, I get the work done for about 30 cents on the dollar, or a 70% savings. I also know the Mexican Dentista, having used him before.

I'll be staying at another Tribal Casino on the Border, to do more gambling and maybe win BIG MONEY 🤑 this time. I've just been Breaking Even so far at the Tacoma Casino. Great FREE Food though.

In Springfield, I will stay at a Bates Motel nearby the Cemetery. Not gonna stay with my sister, she's to crotchety these days. Looks like it will be a Motel 6, Tom Burdett has the Lights on for me still.

I have investigated all the transportation options for Cripples, and should be able to negotiate this one pretty well. Hopefully. 🤞
