It will have to be bought new somewhere. I'd check on availability....I see it can be had around here, but not from the unusual retail sources.....and the sellers don't put up a price list....it's all custom cut.....I have no experience buying this stuff.

I did a partial local search, and there are several suppliers right in my own town! And surely there are yet more suppliers within a 60 mile radius.  Also, I have a friend who works at a fairly high level in our state's Highway Department, and surely they have sources.  So if the fella who built the one I highlighted is right about the price per gallon, I'm stoked.
Something like this could get you started asap. You would want to tarp it to avoid algae growth. They are popular with  aquaculture diy

Thanks. I prefer to try for the long term solution first, and if that fails I'd consider a short term solution of the sort you suggest.

I posted an announcement on Craigslist yesterday.: https://santafe.craigslist.org/com/d/santa-fe-santa-fe-urban-permaculture/7100162233.html

This morning I received my first inquiry about that posting.  A conversation has begun with the fellow who responded. And so now the Santa Fe Urban Permaculture Network has life outside the stone's throw distance of where it has had its epicenter, with its fifth participant (I won't say 'member') likely to be joining our efforts soon.  I'm hoping it will drift like spores on April breezes.  We can bring together a tremendous collection of skills, talents, tools, plots of ground, ideas, inspiration, volunteer efforts.... Yay!

Imagine a future of distributed cooperatives....
https://disco.coop/2019/11/imagine-a-future-of-distributed-cooperatives-or-discos/

and this, too:

https://www.resilience.org/stories/2020-03-27/no-new-normal/

And this: https://stacco.works/2017/06/06/commons-in-the-time-of-monsters-how-p2p-politics-can-change-the-world-one-city-at-a-time/

The Santa Fe Urban Permaculture Network process could emerge as a p2p (decentered, non-centered, open, non-authoritarian, non-hierarchical ) network in any and every town, city, suburb, village.... And I think it should, because it's a natural and appropriate response to the challenges ahead for all of us.

Reach out where you live. Find like minded people. Plant some seeds.

Update time! I now have several broccoli seedlings, which is great. However I think the first site I looked at showed planting dates around 2 weeks earlier than another one I just recently checked (almanac.com). So the first screw up has happened, if almanac.com is correct. I think I'll just do another round in a few days to try planting at both times.

In other news, my mom gave all our neighbours a letter just introducing our family to them. Both my parents are coming around to the idea of getting to know our neighbours, not only to make our lives more fulfilling, but to have people to rely on in uncertain times like this. My next door neighbour gave us a book on gardening and is really excited to see us really getting into it. In past years it's been me doing it mostly as a fun hobby.

Finally, check out the photos! My Dad and I made a raised bed today out of some old 2x4's that were in our garage rafters.

Addendum: the seedlings are little cuties so I took some macro photos on my phone. One of the pics has my pinky in it for scale.

By the way, those natural fiber starter pots you're using you may want to carefully pinch the bottom off of 'em just before setting them in the garden soil, so the roots can easily sink down.  Just a thought. I know the will eventually compost / dissolve. But they may initially constrain root depth.
