I was a teenage Parrothead. I saw Buffet on the 4th of July, 1976. New Orleans, Louisiana.

(Mostly from memory)

If I ever live to be an old man
I'm gonna sail down to Martinique

I'm gonna buy me a sweat-stained Bogart suit
and an African parakeet

Then I'll set him on my shoulder,
and open up my trusty old mind

I'm gonna teach him how to fuss
Teach him how to cuss

And pull the cork out of a bottle of wine
What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.

Are you old enough to remember Dave Van Ronk?

Cocaine Blues is one of those songs that everybody in the world covered. It's generally attributed to the Reverend Gary Davis. He influenced a whole lot of people. Great finger picking style.

Hesitation Blues is a variation. It was covered very well in my college days by Jesse Colin Young of the Youngbloods, a band K-Dog referenced the other day.

God I love the internet. Do you realize how rare this recording is?

I'm old enough to remember Pete Seeger singing with the Weavers.  Pre-dates Dave Van Ronk by about a decade maybe two.  But the answer is yes, I do remember him.

🎵 DD Juke Box V2.0: Come My Way/Broken English - Marianne Faithfull
« Reply #1242 on: November 10, 2018, 12:50:30 AM »
True Illuminati Spawn here.  Besides being Mick Jagger's Girlfriend in the 60s, Marianne was from the Masoch line.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/NYjY5Bo27KQ" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/NYjY5Bo27KQ</a>

"Faithfull's mother, Eva, was the daughter of an Austro-Hungarian nobleman, Artur Wolfgang, Ritter von Sacher-Masoch (18751953)".  You may recognize that name from "Masochism".

Despite this somewhat sorry history along with persistent drug abuse throughout her life, Marianne had a fabulous voice and besides that one of the best upper class Brit accents you will ever run across.  Donovan's Scottish accent rivals it for the Scot crowd and Delores O'Reardon for the Irish, but I don't know any other singer that duplicated this type of Eaton English like Maryanne spoke and sang.  A bit later in life Maryanne recorded "Broken English", to quite a bit of Musical Acclaim.

Great footage of a 60s era recording studio here, and in Color too!  My friend Randi had a Tape Deck like that one.

🎵 DD Juke Box V2.0: I Ain't Marchin' Anymore - Phil Ochs

Go to 3:08 in the video to hear Phil's hilarious description of the FSoA going Fascist.  This was in 1970!

Sadly, I was only 13 when he performed in this concert at Carnegie Hall.  I didn't get to it, though I knew about it.  I was playing Phil's music regularly on RNI, our Pirate Radio Station.  I did meet Phil a couple of years later, just before he commited Suicide on the Alex Bennett Show of WBAI.  He was living in the attic of his mom's house in Queens, not far from where I lived.  He was incredibly talented and quite prolific in the short time he lived.  A real loss there.
