Even before the Cultural Revolution, when Mao was trying to collectivize agriculture, it's estimated (nobody knows exactly) that 45 million Chinese died in just four years. You would think that would have been the end of Chinese Communism, but it was just the beginning.

Chump change.  That is when being a millionaire made you rich.  Now it takes BILLIONS.

Same can be said for population reduction nowadays.

and here we are discussing a drop in the stock market, commodity prices trending downwards, as though these have anything to do with the desperation and deprivation that truly precedes or accompanies a collapse. Within our lifetimes we have plenty of examples making a mockery of the idea that some perturbation in the markets or commodity prices have anything to do with "collapse", even in the same country as it is being claimed for now, that truly were disasters for millions.

There is a reason why economists use supply/demand curves, because an adjustment between the curves is just that, an adjustment between the curves. Sure, there will be winners and losers in that change. Some will make money, more will lose, sure, some folks are going to be PISSED, maybe even poised enough to want to go after their political leaders, but they aren't starving. They aren't dying or being relocated to rural areas to die.

Who are we to to cheapen the definition of the word so that we can include some folks getting a haircut in the same way that Americans did on their stock market returns or housing values 7 years ago?

I vote for much needed perspective on the part of everyone, particularly those of us who have been alive when these things happened, and know that people weren't running around pretending their hair was on fire because Chinese civilians were dying in yet another mismanaged political concept during our lifetimes, like Venezuela appears to be trying to queue up for.

Sometimes one creates a dynamic impression by saying something, and sometimes one creates as significant an impression by remaining silent.

To me communist China effectively ended around the late 70s with the death of Mao in 76 which was shortly followed by economic reforms set by Deng Xiaoping who opened the country to greater foreign investments and the privatisation of various economic sectors. People may have still called China a communist country but for all intents and purposes it was not a communist country any more. In some ways with the reduced environmental and labour regulation one could describe China as more capitalistic than many European countries that have significantly greater regulation. Like most industrialised nations China's inequality in relative and absolute terms is rising which goes against one of the basic tenets of communism.

In practical terms there is only one form of government, and that's oligarchy.

Call it Communist, Democratic Republic, Constitutional Monarchy, whatever. There is, in every country in the world, rule by the few.

Absoultely and most precise observation MKing.

The cacaphony of dim bloggers vying for Alexa ratings and who can scream the loudest contests over every negative happening has really cheapened the language. The MSM is right there with the empty barrels as well, vying for ratings and trying to capture the attention of as many fools as possible with their empty barrel shrieks and squeals for the advertiser's bucks.

I was a paperboy at ten years of age in the Boston area about a half century ago. There were a half dozen daily morning papers and the same afternoon editions, as well as great local newspapers in each town. It was an age of journalism and respected columnists that seemed to enlighten rather than sensationalize. There was of course the Tabloid, but even they had a bit of class about them compared to today.

Great posting MKing, even brought back memories of Mao's famous swim in the Yangtze.

North Dakota Becomes First State to Legalize Weaponized Drones

http://libertyblitzkrieg.com/2015/08/26/north-dakota-becomes-first-state-to-legalize-drones-weaponized-with-tasers-tear-gas-rubber-bullets-sound-canons/

It is now legal for law enforcement in North Dakota to fly drones armed with everything from Tasers to tear gas thanks to a last-minute push by a pro-police lobbyist.

With all the concern over the militarization of police in the past year, no one noticed that the state became the first in the union to allow police to equip drones with “less than lethal” weapons. House Bill 1328 wasn’t drafted that way, but then a lobbyist representing law enforcement—tight with a booming drone industry—got his hands on it.

U.S. Military Scrambled TWO F-16s to Fend Off a Crazy Cat Lady

The U.S. Military Scrambled F-16s to Fend Off a Crazy Cat Lady
Keeping America safe from cat scratch fever

On Aug. 28, two F-16s from the Colorado Air National Guard’s 140th Wing took off from Buckley Air Force Base. Their mission? Escort a Boeing 767 passenger jet flying from Frankfurt, Germany to Las Vegas.

The Condor airlines plane needed to make an emergency stop in Denver to rid itself of Zaneta Hucikova — an international supermodel from the Czech Republic — and her feline companion.

"I heard she got a cat with her on the plane and the plane crew didn't know she was going to take a cat with her on the plane," passenger Fritz Peterson told Denver CBS affiliate KCNC‑TV.

According to a mix of reports from local news agencies, Hucikova snuck the precious cargo aboard the international flight and then demanded the crew allow her to sit with her "comfort cat." The tensions in the air grew when the flight crew, not content to allow the kitty to wander, locked it in the bathroom.

"That lady wasn't happy with the crew putting their cat in the lavatory and then everything went wrong. She started screaming and shouting in the back," Peterson said.

The passengers said Hucikova then became violent. She slapped a flight attendant and tossed a paper cup at another. The crew decided to make an emergency landing, and the Air Force scrambled the F-16s to help bring the plane in safe.

Federal authorities detained Hucikova in Denver. Turns out she had overstayed her work visa. The cat remains in custody under the careful supervision of federal authorities.

People on the Internet are calling the model a crazy cat lady. But can someone who loves cats so much that it takes two F-16s to bring her in really be crazy?

I rode all the way from Charlotte Amalie to Miami sitting next to a woman who was carrying a fairly large Pug in her lap. The flight attendant was so taken with that mutt I thought she was going to forget to offer me a beverage. She spent every spare minute the whole flight making over that dog, like it was Lassie or something.

Not sure why holding a cat is verboten.

My email has already been flagged, of that I know for sure.  I exchanged one email with Dan Goodin and my next three attempts at dialog with him were blocked.  The reason is because I have a virus on a thumb drive that was inflicted on me which I was lucky enough to discover.  I'm sure this virus 'phones home' everytime it gets plugged into a computer and it goes right through most firewalls.  But there was one firewall it flagged and that is how I discovered it.  I also know how I got it in the first place.  The source of the virus is the 'equation group'.  Something Dan was writing about.

But there are other less dramatic ways to attract attention and ANYBODY CAN DO IT.
