Ohio Black Lives Matter Activist Takes His Own Life

http://www.theroot.com/articles/news/2016/02/ohio_blm_activist_marshawn_mccarrell_ii_commits_suicide_outside_statehouse.html

I just read this story about Marshawn McCarell...a young guy who tried to be an advocate for other people and who was apparently a tireless worker for causes he believed in.

Late yesterday, he unzipped his fly, took a whizz on the Ohio Statehouse, and blew his brains out. I really don't agree with the politics of Black Lives Matter...but I can relate very well with the kind of frustration that comes with the realization that a lot of things in this world are really fucked up, and that most of them are just getting worse instead of better.

This photo moves me to tears. He reminds me of my own son. I look into his eyes and see intelligence and humor and maybe eyes that have seen a little too much suffering.

The loss of this young man feels like a loss to all of us. To me its a reminder that none of us should take ourselves or anything in this world so seriously that it makes us want to give up, or to....take our own life or someone else's life.

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis Nobler in the mind to suffer
The Slings and Arrows of outrageous Fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them: to die, to sleep
No more; and by a sleep, to say we end
The Heart-ache, and the thousand Natural shocks
That Flesh is heir to? 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep,
To sleep, perchance to Dream; aye, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes Calamity of so long life:

What makes the desert beautiful is that somewhere it hides a well.
