Dems’ double standard when it comes to ‘the law’
By Howie Carr  |   Tuesday, August 14, 2012  |  http://www.bostonherald.com  |  Columnists

Granny Warren and Deval Patrick and the rest of the Massachusetts Democratic Party have a very consistent position when it comes to compliance with the state’s laws.

If the law increases Democrat turnout, it is absolutely mandatory that it be enforced, costs be damned.

If the statute adversely impacts any Democats — say, illegal aliens — then said law should be ignored, not to mention denounced as racist and/or nativist.

This is the lesson of last week’s $276,000 mailing to the state’s 477,000 welfare recipients, including illegal aliens, exhorting them to register to vote. Granny Warren, the fake Indian Senate candidate, was the main beneficiary of the taxpayers’ involuntary in-kind contribution. Defending the indefensible, the forked-tongue Harvard professor traded in her usual favorite verb, “hammer,” for a new one, “comply.”

“This is about making sure Massachusetts is complying with the law,” she told a TV reporter. “This is about Massachusetts complying.”

Are you confused about this sudden outbreak of law ’n’ order? After all, this is a state where the attorney general has publicly opined, “Technically, it is not illegal to be illegal in Massachusetts.” Where Mayor Mumbles Menino has stated that grand theft auto is not a serious offense — at least not if it’s committed by an illegal alien.

Just two weeks ago, the governor vetoed a bill that would have required “proof of legal residence” to register a motor vehicle here. He wanted the statute to say merely, “proof of residence,” legality be damned. (Amazingly, the veto was overridden by his fellow Democrats.)

“This is about compliance with the law,” the fake Indian continued Wednesday, after this newspaper busted the moonbats’ latest scam, “so that the law should be enforced.”

The Motor Voter law, that is. Not the motor vehicle laws. And not the immigration laws. Enforcing those might depress the Democrat turnout.

“Look,” she went on condescendingly, “I don’t know how else to explain this ... the law has been in place for a very long time.”

The reporter, though, wouldn’t let up. She wanted an answer from Spreading Bull, not a soundbite.

Reporter: Should the state pay $276,000 to mail out these forms?

Lieawatha: I think the state needs to be in compliance with the law.

What didn’t this reporter understand? An organization run by Granny’s daughter filed the lawsuit. The pro malo (as opposed to bono) legal work was handled by Mrs. Deval Patrick’s law firm. It’s not justice, it’s just-us.

Reporter: Should the state be paying this money?

Fauxahontas: I think the state should be in compliance with the law.

Reporter: And if it’s a waste of money?

Granny: I think the state should be in compliance with the law.

But only if the law is Politically Correct, and an asset to Democrats.

It's almost like a conspiracy between elites. The Dems provide protection for the people who the Repub's exhort their koolaid drinkers to dehumanize, so that when TSHTF there will be plenty of dehumanized vulnerable people for the masses to attack, and not elite parasitic scumbags, while said scumbags head for their hidie holes.

An American Tragedy
Posted by Naunihal Singh

singh-oak-creek-america.jpg

The media has treated the shootings in Oak Creek very differently from those that happened just two weeks earlier in Aurora. Only one network sent an anchor to report live from Oak Creek, and none of the networks gave the murders in Wisconsin the kind of extensive coverage that the Colorado shootings received. The print media also quickly lost interest, with the story slipping from the front page of the New York Times after Tuesday. If you get all your news from “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” you would have had no idea that anything had even happened on August 5th at all.

The tragic events in the Milwaukee suburb were also treated differently by political élites, many fewer of whom issued statements on the matter. While both Presidential candidates at least made public comments, neither visited, nor did they suspend campaigning in the state even for one day, as they did in Colorado. In fact, both candidates were in the vicinity this weekend and failed to appear. Obama hugged his children a little tighter after Aurora, but his remarks after Oak Creek referred to Sikhs as members of the “broader American family,” like some distant relatives. Romney unsurprisingly gaffed, referring on Tuesday to “the people who lost their lives at that sheik temple.” Because the shooting happened in Paul Ryan’s district, the Romney campaign delayed announcement of its Vice-Presidential choice until after Ryan could attend the funerals for the victims, but he did not speak at the service and has said surprisingly little about the incident.

As a result, the massacre in Oak Creek is treated as a tragedy for Sikhs in America rather than a tragedy for all Americans. Unlike Aurora, which prompted nationwide mourning, Oak Creek has had such a limited impact that a number of people walking by the New York City vigil for the dead on Wednesday were confused, some never having heard of the killings in the first place.

QUITO (Reuters) - Ecuador denied a report on Tuesday that it had granted amnesty to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, and the country's foreign minister said only he and President Rafael Correa could make the decision.

Assange has been taking refuge in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London for the past eight weeks to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning on sex crime allegations.

The former computer hacker, who enraged Washington in 2010 when his WikiLeaks website published thousands of secret U.S. diplomatic cables, says he fears he could be sent to the United States, where he believes his life would be at risk.

Ecuador rejects in the most emphatic terms the explicit threat of the British official communication."
'Hostile act'

He said such a threat was "improper of a democratic, civilized and rule abiding country".

"If the measure announced in the British official communication is enacted, it will be interpreted by Ecuador as an unacceptable, unfriendly and hostile act and as an attempt against our sovereignty. It would force us to respond," he said.

"We are not a British colony".

GO,
I think it's time for Ecuador to helicopter Julian to a waiting ship and sail to Argentina (they just told the British they couldn't dock there) and then fly him to Ecuador from there. After Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, storming an embassy (by American JSOC troops dressed in British uniforms) is quite feasible. The empire is getting pushback from Russia (recent Ruskie sub tooling around the Gulf of Mexico), China amassing gold to give the dollar the finger and the Syrian caper going belly up so they are casting around for an easy win. Ecuador needs to "Move him or lose him",

Skilled Work, Without the Worker
By JOHN MARKOFF

DRACHTEN, the Netherlands — At the Philips Electronics factory on the coast of China, hundreds of workers use their hands and specialized tools to assemble electric shavers. That is the old way.

At a sister factory here in the Dutch countryside, 128 robot arms do the same work with yoga-like flexibility. Video cameras guide them through feats well beyond the capability of the most dexterous human.

One robot arm endlessly forms three perfect bends in two connector wires and slips them into holes almost too small for the eye to see. The arms work so fast that they must be enclosed in glass cages to prevent the people supervising them from being injured. And they do it all without a coffee break — three shifts a day, 365 days a year.

All told, the factory here has several dozen workers per shift, about a tenth as many as the plant in the Chinese city of Zhuhai.

This is the future. A new wave of robots, far more adept than those now commonly used by automakers and other heavy manufacturers, are replacing workers around the world in both manufacturing and distribution. Factories like the one here in the Netherlands are a striking counterpoint to those used by Apple and other consumer electronics giants, which employ hundreds of thousands of low-skilled workers.

“With these machines, we can make any consumer device in the world,” said Binne Visser, an electrical engineer who manages the Philips assembly line in Drachten.

Many industry executives and technology experts say Philips’s approach is gaining ground on Apple’s. Even as Foxconn, Apple’s iPhone manufacturer, continues to build new plants and hire thousands of additional workers to make smartphones, it plans to install more than a million robots within a few years to supplement its work force in China.

Foxconn has not disclosed how many workers will be displaced or when. But its chairman, Terry Gou, has publicly endorsed a growing use of robots. Speaking of his more than one million employees worldwide, he said in January, according to the official Xinhua news agency: “As human beings are also animals, to manage one million animals gives me a headache.”

The falling costs and growing sophistication of robots have touched off a renewed debate among economists and technologists over how quickly jobs will be lost. This year, Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee, economists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, made the case for a rapid transformation. “The pace and scale of this encroachment into human skills is relatively recent and has profound economic implications,” they wrote in their book, “Race Against the Machine.” www.nytimes.com/2012/08/19/business/new-wave-of-adept-robots-is-changing-global-industry.html?_r=2&ref=business&pagewanted=all               :icon_study:
