Off in a while to pick up the grand kids. They have been bugging me to take them to some new Trampoline place that opened up around here. It is the current rage, promised to take them during school vacation.

Boy oh Boy the kids of today. We used to get a game of Chinese Checkers or Monopoly to keep us busy at Christmas until our birthday. That doesn't work anymore for sure, wouldn't last an entire day.

What a consumption credit monster of waste and frivolous goods has been created out there. Hope I'm just a silly old fool and it isn't going to come crashing down soon. It will not be a pleasant experience.

I bet that trampoline place is "Big Air."  We just had one built, and I already took the boys.  They had a blast.  It was $15 an hour per kid.  It was worth the money, although my oldest got upset because it was Saturday and there were lines for all of the really cool stuff he wanted to do.

But yeah, there's a lot of money being made on needless kid stuff.  I can't count the times we've spent good money on some toy only to have the boys more enamored by the box it came in...or a bamboo pole laying around in the yard.

Currently my oldest sons favorite toy is an 8 foot length of rope I gave him.

When I was a kid there were trampoline parks all over the place, and tramps at the beach too and in schools.  George Nissen made some of the best.  Then the lawsuits came flying in and they drove George out of bizness.

If you want cheaper tramp time, most gymnastics schools run an Open Gym for $5 for an hour.  They can swing on the bars too and play in the foam pit.

Great Stuff and what life is all about. Agreed but this is a bit different

I hate to ruin the fun folks and warm toasty feelings but this kid says he is about to lose his home. Honestly think the park can wait and the kids are better off and happier in a warm bed at night with their parents rather than with a social worker.

It's difficult for me to think I even have to argue this point among adults.  My lips are sealed on the topic. Good Night Diners, have to run.

I think you misunderstood me Ox.  My pot to piss in about to be repossessed was just a joke.  I just mean that I don't have much by way of savings and mostly live month to month.  I expect that to change so long as BAU continues.  I got another Permaculture design gig with a pretty big budget today.  It already looks like I don't need to seek other clients for the year because I will be busy enough as it is.  The phone rings from time to time due to preexisting clients referring their friends to me.  Business is good and it's headed in the direction I would prefer which is Permaculture and Bamboo.  If things continue I won't have time to cut grass any longer.

So don't take me the wrong way.  Just, in comparison to you, I don't have a pot to piss in and I still took my kids to the trampoline park...that's all I'm sayin'.  I take the family out to eat Mexican often to.  That's $50 a pop.

I'd rather enjoy life than have gold.

Yes I did take you serious Lucid. Especially where you mentioned your truck a while back in the same vein and were on the off season from your lawn cutting season which you also mentioned as a problem.

Wish I had known you were joking before I had to argue with other members about your situation. Sorry for the misunderstanding. In the future when you are crying poverty I will just grin and realize you are either at Trampoline playtime, or knocking off 50 dollar Mexican meals with the kids.

Yes Enjoy life and have fun, the heck with Gold my friend. The Libertarian way. Too Each His Own. Freedom, it's wonderful.                                                                                                                            Enjoy and God Bless, GO

Man, I took my kids to the trampoline park once.  I did that because my oldest got the "terrific kid" award at school.  At the time, after the park, I think I had like 7 bucks left in my wallet.

We go eat Mexican maybe twice a month.  The rest of the time it's home cooked meals at home from whole foods.

Compared to you I am poor Ox.  Compared to somebody in an Indian slum I live like a king.  It's all relative.  But by American standards I am poor, not middle class.  I don't own my business truck, I have a payment on it.  I don't own this house (a relative does).  My trailer I have because RE bought it (I have two trailers now, I bought the first one on a credit card).  In fact, my business was financed on credit cards.  Most of the professional grade tools I have were bought on credit.

GM and I are pretty sure we can technically qualify for food stamps and many of our friends are on food stamps.  I live in a double wide trailer right next to a trailer park on a two lane highway.  I've got teeth that are falling apart that I haven't had fixed because of money.  I haven't been to a doctor or dentist in over five years (with the exception to one trip to the ER due to wrecking a certain electric scooter).  That visit was paid for by medicaid.

Do you have any friends on food stamps Ox?  Have you EVER lived in a trailer home?  I didn't think so.

I'm not asking for your sympathy, but don't kid yourself about your and my socioeconomic statuses.

Just in the spirit of full disclosure, I have also been to see a nurse practitioner several times for mental help due to Aspergers, PTSD from both wartime and EMS, and a life of alcohol abuse.

The Crying Game reversed. There was a movie starring Hillary Swank about a true story of another girl who did something similar, before any social media.

Apparently, per RE, the Forum database has been burping up past years' posts and/or drafts in apparently random order, like so many pingos or methane hydrate craters on the ocean floor. No visible cause, nor cure.

Re: Golden Oxen's News - Elon Musk Pencils in 2024 for first Mars Mission

A most amazing person is Mr Musk.

Elon Musk pencils in 2024 for first Mars mission
By Jonathan Amos BBC Science Correspondent

Elon Musk says he aims to send people to Mars in 2024
.

The rocket and car entrepreneur told an audience in Adelaide, Australia, that he would begin building the necessary ships to support the mission next year.

He says he is refocusing his SpaceX company to work on just one type of vehicle that could do all of the firm's current work and interplanetary travel.

Known as the BFR, this rocket system could also carry people rapidly around the Earth from city to city.

Image caption Elon Musk: "That's not a typo"

"Most of what people consider to be long-distance trips could be completed in less than half-an-hour," he told the International Astronautical Congress.

Mr Musk first laid out his Mars ambitions at the IAC in 2016. Twelve months on, he returned with more detail.

His BFR, although still massive, is now a little smaller at 106m in height and 9m in width.

The major difference compared with the original version, however, was cost, the South African-born American said.

"I think we've figured out how to pay for it. This is very important."

The route to affordability, he explained, was in refocusing all of the company's efforts into the one system - and then using that to meet all its customers' needs.

This means the BFR would launch satellites and service the space station - as SpaceX's Falcon 9 and Dragon capsule do now - but also take people to the Moon and Mars, and do what is termed "point to point" travel on Earth where passengers fly, for example, from New York to Shanghai in something like 40 minutes.

"Some of our customers are conservative and they want to see the BFR fly several times before they're comfortable launching [on it]," Mr Musk said. "So what we plan to do is to build ahead and have a stock of Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles, so that customers can be comfortable if they want to use the old rocket, the old spacecraft - they can do that because we'll have a bunch in stock.

"But all of our resources will then turn to building BFR."

As well as being the CEO and chief designer at SpaceX, Mr Musk also founded the Tesla electric car company and is chairman of SolarCity which specialises in renewables technologies, such as high-storage batteries.

He has attracted a rock-star following from fans who love his visionary thinking. And although his promises have often taken much longer to deliver, he has achieved a number of notable firsts.

These include landing 16 orbital-class rockets back on Earth after they have completed their missions. Two of these rockets have even flown a second time.

Key to his thinking is the concept of reusability. Space activity is currently expensive only because it is disposable, he says. There is no reason, he claims, why rocket systems cannot be made to operate like airliners where the most significant ongoing cost is the fuel in the tanks.

His Falcon 9 rocket is partially reusable; the BFR would be totally reusable. The same vehicle would fly time and time again.

Mr Musk recognises that his ambitious timelines sometimes slip. When he put up a slide in Adelaide stating that the first cargo (no humans aboard) versions of BFR would go to Mars in 2022, he said: "That's not a typo, although it is aspirational."

His many fans in the audience lapped up the presentation, but his numerous business customers will also have stiffened slightly at the news that SpaceX is to begin diverting its energies towards an all new rocket system.

These customers are extremely conservative - as Mr Musk himself conceded. They are only just beginning to grapple with the idea that they can put their very expensive satellites on "second-hand" Falcons. Now they must also get used to the idea that the Falcon will eventually be replaced by another rocket system - the BFR.

Boy Would I like to live to see that!

I hear you Surly. What a brain this kid Elon has.

Incredible gifts some folks have. What a shame such genius is a rarity.

Wish I had just half his smarts, make that one tenth. :icon_scratch: :exp-grin:

The fascinating life of Elon Musk, captured in one giant infographic
Tesla is just part of his story

From getting bullied and thrown down the stairs in grammar school to becoming “Earth’s most future-oriented person” and earning billions of dollars in the process, it’s hard to wrap one’s brain around just how much Elon Musk has managed to stuff into his 44 years of life. But that’s where this massive infographic, created by information designer Anna Vital, comes in. Read the full article .

“In a hundred years, when most people reading this and the person writing this are long gone, Musk’s cars and rockets will still be circling the Earth and the skies,” writes Anna Vital from the Funders and Founders blog. “How can such a person get started against all odds is the question I ask here. And, more importantly, what can we learn from him?”

The illustrated life’s journey, which leans heavily on Ashlee Vance’s book , winds through several milestones and inflection points, like when Musk sold his first videogame and the time he left Stanford’s PhD program after just two days.

And, of course, it also mentions how Musk, after reading “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” decided his life’s mission would be to save humanity. He recently said he doesn’t just want to take humans to Mars, he wants to use his next spaceship to take them from New York to Los Angeles, in 25 minutes.

Those are just a few of the highlights. It’s a huge visualization , so we broke it down into some notable sections.

The rough early years, capped by a nice profit at the age of 12:

Just a glimpse of this incredible genius is posted here. Read the entire mind boggling infographic of this real life Wizard.

Great reading for folks that think their smart.  ;D ;D :o ::)
