The Rich Are Not Like You and Me
« on: July 14, 2016, 11:42:40 AM »
They have more money...to spend on haircuts, apparently.

The President of France, for instance, spends about $11,000 a month. My opinion is that for that kind of money, his hair should be much better.

A little misleading I think.  This stylist I believe works for Da Goobermint and cuts hair for all the pols.  It would be like having a Congressional Barber.

Top hair people make good money in private biznesses, so to attract one to Goobermint service they have to pay $100K, which Eddie constantly tells us is just Middle Class.

That was not the impression I got. I thought he was a private hairstylist that Hollande arranged to have for his own barber. The article says he had to let of of whatever other clients he had, which might justify the money, if it were really true.

With hair like that, he could get by with a Flowbee.

If he really is paying a Private Stylist with that head of hair, it's definitely the piece de resistance in Vanity.

Also makes me curious where he gets the money for this? ???  It's not on his Goobermint paycheck.  Does he come from Old Money?  Was he a Bankster before he became POF?

He's the Prez. The citizens are picking up the tab. Given his calls for austerity for a lot of them, that's why this has turned into a bit of an embarrassment.

OK, I think I got it figured out.  As PoF, he probably has a decent budget for staff, and can plug in whoever he wants as Aides.  The Stylist would fit as a Media Aide, getting him spruced up for appearances in front of the cameras.

He's providing Middle Class employment for a barber.  Why is that an embarrasment?

According to the article and others I have read on the same topic this $11,000 monthly cost is the personal tab that Hollande pays for his hair cuts. Whenever I read this story nothing is mentioned about this cost being a barber service for other French politicians: it is simply the cost of cutting Hollande's hair. It would seem part of the reason for the high cost is that the barber in question had to close his own salon to follow Hollande around so those high wages are compensation for having to make that sacrifice. That doesn't seem to suggest this person is a government worker but is a private work contractor. What can be gathered by digger further however is that Hollande was not aware of the cost so you can't say this was a case of him wilfully wasting money. In any case this does not reflect well on him as he is a politician that not only supports austerity but identifies as a socialist.

According to Stefeun on OFW, it's as I first suspected, the stylist cuts hair for the whole staff at the Elysee.

Stefeun says:

FE,
F. Hollande has reduced the running fees of the Élysée (equiv. White House) by a fair amount, and also his own salary by 30% as soon as arrived.
The hair-cutter has been in place for years before Hollande, and is in charge of other people’s hair too (there are ca.4000 employees at the Élysée, iirc).

So maybe his salary is a bit high, and I admit the story is quite funny, but I think it isn’t a good “flag”; just another piece of Hollande-bashing, without real substance.
NB: i’m not pro-Hollande.
