If Assange's internet connection goes down, he obviously has a backup method.  But when he switches to using it, he has to identify himself to the rest of Wikileaks, otherwise he could be a fake.  So the 3 tweets (2nd article) contain 3x64 hexadecimal characters = 768 bits of his security signature.  Obviously the 768 bits have to be disguised as something else.

Why on earth do people who admit they are ignorant, think they know enough to tweet this crap?
"I'm ignorant about this but @wikileaks seemingly just released 3 codes to unlock posted files. Dead man's switch? Did they "get" Assange?"

Assange's internet link intentionally severed by state party - WikiLeaks
17 Oct, 2016

WikiLeaks has activated “contingency plans” after its co-founder’s internet service was intentionally cut off by a state actor, the media organization said in a tweet.

Julian Assange's internet link has been intentionally severed by a state party. We have activated the appropriate contingency plans.
    — WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) October 17, 2016

The internet is one of the few, if not only, available ways for Julian Assange, who has been locked up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for more than four years, to maintain contact with the outside world.

Facing extradition to Sweden over allegations of rape, which he denies, the Australian computer programmer has been holed up in the embassy in West London since 2012.

He claims the extradition is actually a bid to move him to a jurisdiction from which he can then be sent to the US, which is known to be actively investigating WikiLeaks.

The unverified claims of state sabotage come as WikiLeaks continues to release damaging documents, most recently thousands of hacked emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta.

Earlier this month, Assange claimed his organization would aim to publish documents “every week” in the run up to US Election Day on November 8.

Clinton’s campaign has made unsubstantiated claims that WikiLeaks is working with the Russian government to help defeat the Democrat in favor of Trump.

Last week the FBI reissued a statement saying it was working to “determine the accuracy, nature and scope” of cyber intrusions, but did not name any suspected perpetrators.

The ninth release of Podesta emails occurred on Sunday, bringing the total number of leaked files to over 12,000.

Among the hundreds of emails released are discussions about Clinton’s appeal among black voters, her email apologies, and Chelsea Clinton being described by one of her father’s longtime aides as a ‘backstabber’.

The batch also comes amid revelations of Clinton’s cozy relationship with the mainstream media, and how they work closely to control the media landscape and set up stories that show her in a favorable light.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Hillary Clinton reportedly wanted to “drone” WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange when she was the US secretary of state.

According to True Pundit, Clinton and the State Department were under pressure to silence the whistleblower in the months before WikiLeaks dumped some 250,000 diplomatic cables from 1966 to 2010, dubbed CableGate.

Unidentified State Department sources claimed Clinton asked “can’t we just drone this guy?”.

WikiLeaks Twitter codes spark Assange death rumors
17 Oct, 2016

An online frenzy has erupted after three coded tweets from WikiLeaks sparked bizarre rumors that the organization’s controversial co-founder Julian Assange has died.

On Sunday, WikiLeaks posted three tweets containing intriguing references to John Kerry, Ecuador, and the UK Foreign Office alongside a 64-character code.

    pre-commitment 1: John Kerry 4bb96075acadc3d80b5ac872874c3037a386f4f595fe99e687439aabd0219809

    pre-commitment 3: UK FCO f33a6de5c627e3270ed3e02f62cd0c857467a780cf6123d2172d80d02a072f74

Theories have propagated online that the code is actually a “dead man’s switch” to release WikiLeaks information if something drastic were to befall Assange.

It looks as if Julian Assange may have just been killed. Look at his last tweets. Dead mans switch! pic.twitter.com/iKMZsy98u1

Assange apparently dumped A LOT of Wikileaks at once making people think his "dead man trigger" had been activated.

    ASSANGE HAS TRIGGERED DEADMAN SWITCHES?

Speculation about the numbers was also rife on Reddit.

“I hope he isn’t dead. This does look like an emergency dead man’s switch,” a Redditer said.
Meanwhile, one person asked: “The mythical Dead man’s key?”

“I am hearing that Ecuador has caved to Clinton & Co,” another person speculated.

A pre-commitment hash is not a dead man's switch. This is just #Assange trying to get some drama out of emails. https://t.co/4SAqPoqq33

Appears those codes were indeed Assange's "dead man's switch".

There have been no official reports of Assange’s death or indeed any of his removal from the Ecuadorian Embassy, where he has been staying for the past four years as he fights extradition to Sweden.

Clues to the swathe of potential meanings to the numbers appear to lie in the tweets themselves and the word “Precommitment.”

Precommitment is a practice in cryptography to provide proof that any future leaks have not been tampered with.

For example, judging by the latest WikiLeaks tweets, any future WikiLeaks download of documents involving Secretary of State John Kerry is likely to contain the “Pre-commitment 1” tweet code as proof of their authenticity.

The codes come amid more WikiLeaks drama, including claims Assange’s internet access had been “intentionally severed” by a state party and the release of over 12,000 hacked emails from Clinton campaign chair, John Podesta.

So how does he get the security signature out when they cut off his Twitter account?

Another Twitter account.
He must surely have any number of Twitter accounts, just like Wikileaks.org has any number of mirror websites, all set up and standing by, ready to take over when the DNS IP pointers are changed.
