Yes, numerous times on all computers and browsers.  Same message every time.  Try it yourself.

Also, it's not just MY problem!  Knarf had the SAME problem.

In fact, had Knarf not informed me of his problem, I never would have noticed it.  All my computers were signed in to the Diner, and I never sign out.  It was only once I signed out and tried to sign in again I saw the problem.

No, I am trying to give you all the information I have that you ask for.  I gave you the error message and url that message showed up on.  I told you when I tried it, abut 5 minutes before I posted up on the Diner about trying to login with Edge.  I told you Knarf experienced the problem first, shortly after you tried to update to php 7 yesterday in the early morning hours.  I then duplicated the problem he had.  What other information can I give you?  I know nothing more than this.

Just the fucking time (GMT) would do.
I have already explained why.

Trying now to login with MS Edge on this computer (which is logged in with Firefox)

here is the Error Message I get (same with every computer I have tried to login with)

An Error Has Occurred!

Your session timed out while posting. Please go back and try again.

Here is the URL for the login page this error comes up on:

http://www.doomsteaddiner.net/forum/index.php?action=login2

I attempted to sign in with Edge about 3-5 minutes before that.  7:51PM Alaska Time.  That is 3:51AM GMT.

Yes, GMT is ahead of Alaska in flipping the date.

There - that wasn't so hard was it? ::)
Only took about 15 hours to drag that out of you.

That's because it took you 15 hours to ask all those questions and for me to then make tests to answer them, with about 10 of those hours spent in driving to Anchorage and visiting with the Vascular Pro from Dover.  During which time I was cut off from the Diner because I can't login with my smartphone or tablet!

Now, we still gotta figure out WTF the problem is here and FIX it!

I think it is something to do with that "/login2" page.  It is built up out of bits and pieces of HTML found in the "/themes/doom1" folder, but one of the things found in that folder is "/languages", and in that is /help.English.php , which DID get updated yesterday.  Now languages is one of the things that v2.0.14 tried to sort out once and for all -  languages with character encoding different from standard ASCII (like Russian) sort differently from what you would expect.  So I reckon the update has screwed something up, such that login2 gets built up out HTML pieces, one of which is missing, hence the timeout message.  (Or maybe it is the following page that gets mucked up).

But suspecting is one thing, how to fix it is quite another. I'll have to wait until someone at SMF support responds to my plea for help- so far  54 views and 0 responses.

Glad you are on it!  :icon_sunny:

Just a thought...

Perhaps if you can figure out what is wrong with WP when you upgrade to php7, then upgrade again, this problem will fix itself?

WP and SMF both claims they work with PHP 5 and 7.

There are now lots of people asking the same question I have on the SMF support forum, and the standard answer is something I can't understand yet. The use of the word "mod" applies to changes people make to the standard SMF code - these have to re-applied after doing an update. I don't think this applies to DD set up, but I have asked how I can tell.

The instructions to fix is finally in.
I'll put it here although only I need to know it:

====
Download via cPanel the file /public_html/forum/themes/doom1/index.template.php
Edit the file:
1. replace "@version 2.0" with "@version 2.0.14"
2. after line 269: "<input type="hidden" name="hash_passwrd" value="" />"
3. insert "<input type="hidden" name="', $context['session_var'], '" value="', $context['session_id'], '" />"
save the new file.
Upload the new file via cPanel to existing location.
=====

To implement this fix we will need:
Full site backup
Do the fix
Test Login works OK
Do the Repair System (currently ~160 broken links and other errors - caused by splitting threads that were being watched with Notify)
Full site backup
Post that changes have been applied successfully, in this thread.

Obviously it would help if everyone was not posting at the time - what could possibly go wrong?
I propose that this happens in five hours time (04:00 GMT)
