The planet wants you to stop eating so much meat and dairy

https://grist.org/article/the-planet-wants-you-to-stop-eating-so-much-meat-and-dairy/

Surly, It seems technology may come to the rescue in this area.    :dontknow:

Global food producer invests in Israeli lab meat technology

Arkansas-based meat processing giant Tyson Foods leads investment round in Jerusalem startup Future Meat Technologies, a maker of meat from cells

Future Meat Technologies' first cultured chicken kebab on grilled eggplant and tahini sauce at the Machneyuda restaurant

One of the world’s largest food producers is betting on Israeli technology to find ways to grow meat without raising or slaughtering animals.

Israeli startup Future Meat Technologies said Wednesday that it raised $2.2 million in a seed investment round co-led by Tyson Ventures, the venture capital arm of Tyson Foods, Inc. Tyson Foods, based in Arkansas, US, is a Fortune 100 company and a processor and marketer of chicken, beef and pork.

Future Meat Technologies is a Jerusalem-based biotechnology company that seeks to create cultured meat directly from animal cells through the production of fat and muscle cells, the core building blocks of meat, in a cost-effective manner.

The planet wants you to stop eating so much meat and dairy

Surly, It seems technology may come to the rescue in this area.    :dontknow:

GO, thanks for posting.

Of course, I'm sure the manufacture of this product takes energy. I assume the tradeoffs would be worth it and beneficial.

And then there is the taste. I've never had it, but (I'm sure both of us have had) soy pressed meat substitute, most often used as an extender. Ugh. This is very different.

Over time the tech will improve. Like me you are old enough to remember when freeze dried mashed potatoes first came out. Awful. Forty years later, they are pretty good.

I remain atavistic, with a continued affinity for meat products. Although vegetarian meals are generally excellent. Me, I'd just do the eggplant.

I try to stay away from too much meat after becoming conscious of health and diet issues in my Senior years Surly.

Can you believe ass hole me never knew about these environmental problem from meat production until recently.

Some of us were just too busy earning a living and trying to figure our life and more mundane matters in our youth and middle age.

My conscience is clear, I meant no harm and never thought of these matters, but sure feel like a jackass.

City boys like me are particularly unaware of these issues is my assumption. Farms were something you got a glimpse of now and then on a family ride at foliage season, and meat was something the supermarket had in the back room that they placed on shelves and my father always bitched about how expensive it was getting. Hamburg was 29 cents a lb then, bologna a dime a lb, and a pound of choice sirloin the outrageous price of around 1.29.  :D ;D

"Cultured Meat Products" will NEVER replace the real thing.  Nothing can match a Moose Tongue right after the kill.  I hope to be dead before the only "meat" products on the shelves are "cultured" and all the employees are robots.

Just like all of us. I am quite sure I had absolutely no idea about the environmental impacts of cattle raising until maybe a decade ago. Now I certainly was aware of the cruelty of certain practices for much longer. But was never moved to change my behavior much, aside from ceasing to eat veal.

When you grow up in the lap of luxury, and milk comes in a carton and meat in plastic wrap, what's to worry? Now we (and more importantly, our children and grandchildren) are going to inherit a more crowded and increasingly trashed planet. It's important for each of to do what we can where we can, as we are so moved. Never too late to make a small difference.

Prince Alwaleed Reveals Secret Deal Struck to Exit Ritz After 83 Days

Fuck him Surly and that whole Royal Family of no good Pricks in Saudi Arabia.

Worthless scum all of them. Nothing constructive about them as they bleed the world dry financially and we have the audacity to protect these fucking zeroes.

Not diminishing you posting in any way Surly, found the pampering of this jerk off by the press rather enlightening, but truly feel what these rotten bastards are doing to the people in Yemen should be what the press and MSM are focused on. I hope these so called kings and princes of the dessert all lock each other up in a prison, and the one I have in mind sure isn't the Ritz.

I don't disagree in any way.

With the Saudi regime locked up with the USA, led by Israel in a (proxy, for now) war with Iran, WWIII seems inevitable. If Bolton doesn't start it in Korea first.
