Title: DD Comedy Channel
Post by: RE on December 26, 2012, 12:33:54 AM
I vaguely remember starting a thread like this and stickying it here, but now I can't find it.  Another Mysterious glitch perhaps, or maybe my memory is bad.  Anyhow, put up your favorite Stand Up Comedy in this thread.

I'll kick it off with some Steven Wright.

Every thing one would ever need to know about the Middle East in 3:33.
A never ending cycle of death. No one owns the land. The real owner of the land is death, for man is to foolish to put down there blades to see there mistakes.

Reference and original, including an explanation about each character in this video: http://blog.ninapaley.com/2012/10/01/... (http://blog.ninapaley.com/2012/10/01/...)

"This Land is Mine" is a video from Nina Paley, originally posted on Vimeo.
In the end of this video appear the text "Copying is an Act of Love, please copy and share. copyheart.org". So, here it is.

LYRIC:

The Exodus Song, "This Land is Mine"
(Lyrics by Pat Boone. Sung by Andy Williams)

This land is mine
God gave this land to me

This brave and ancient land to me
And when the morning sun
Reveals her hills and plains
Then I see a land
Where children can run free.
So take my hand
And walk this land with me
And walk this lovely land with me
Tho' I am just a man
When you are by my side
With the help of God
I know I can be strong.
Tho' I am just a man
When you are by my side
With the help of God
I know I can be strong.
To make this land our home
If I must fight
I'll fight to make this land our own.
Until I die this land is mine!

Fixed it for you.  You need to drop http: into the code before the vid URL.  Also your size was too big.  1056x594 is biggest you want to put on the Diner pages.  Bigger than that causes scrolling issues.

Title: DD Comedy Channel - Sirius XM Anyone?
Post by: JoeP on February 19, 2016, 03:48:54 PM
As frequent Diners might know, I recently purchased a new car.  Part of the package was a free three month subscription to Sirius XM radio.  Iíve had a lot of fun with this commercial free entertainment, but I think I recently found my favorite station Ė Comedy Greats.  Iíve only listened to it for a day and a half, but I love it.  My task now is to check out the other channels:

Any recommendations?   ???

I had Sirius XM for a few years, but I finally got tired of it. They had a channel called Book Radio that was all audio books that I listened to all the time.  One day I clicked on it and it had just been dropped and replaced by some channel that they eventually named Rural Radio, but was mostly aimed at the horse crowd. Kinda pissed me off.

I listened to Raw Dog and Laugh USA the most of the comedy channels. I don't think they had Carlin back then. Raw Dog wasn't always that raw, but anything that might have had profanity at all was there, so most of the current stand-up artists could be found there. Comedy Central was current stand-up, also uncensored.

Laugh USA often offered the various comics who sanitize their language for audiences who might be offended by F-Bombs or sexual innuendos.

Canada Laughs had the current Canadian stand-up pros, many of who were very good of course. Not so filtered the way Laugh USA was.

Never much liked Foxxhole. I don't think my Sirius package had the other two channels you listed.

I liked some of the dedicated music channels. The Jazz channel and the light acoustic stuff on Coffee House. I was less impressed by the channels that were dedicated to one band or one genre. I really don't need a music channel with nothing but Death Metal. I can't handle a straight diet of anything, not even the Grateful Dead or Elvis. LOL.

My experience much the same as Eddie's. Listened mostly to Raw Dog in the car. Don't recall a Carlin channel. This was a few years ago.
Eventually got tired of paying to listen to a subscription channel which is then peppered with ads. I understand the business model, as I make my living in it; but I thought I was paying for a premium channel, where they think they are selling me basic cable.
I understand what they are doing, but determined they could do it without me.

Thanks Eddie and Surly for the great input.  It sounds like both of you opted not to continue your subscription with Sirius XM - Tsk Tsk, you're not being very good consumers now are you?   :icon_mrgreen:  The guy that sold us the car told us we could get the complimentary three month package the car came with (priced at $15/mo.) for about $3.  If this is true and I can jew 'em down to $3, I think I'll be a "good consumer".

Yeah..., but....  He says trump speaks "at a fourth grade level."   As one who used to teach third graders, I'm afraid I'll have to disagree.  My third graders were more articulate on average.  They were also much more empathetic, compassionate and loving than trump.  All in all, they were far more developed human beings.
