Title: Diner Testimonials
Post by: RE on December 19, 2014, 01:37:36 AM
One of the more interesting things to occur since we opened up the Commentary on the Blog is that numerous Lurker/Readers have dropped in with Testimonials that keep my Spirits Up on days they Flag here in the Forum.

Interestingly, people who drop comments on the Blog don't usually participate here on the Forum, and vica versa Forum participants don't usually comment on the Blog.  Not sure of the reason for that.

Anyhow, I compiled the Testimonials so far from the first few months of having Blog Commentary open.  It's pretty substantial.  :icon_sunny:

RE

“FFDR is getting better all the time.
You are the George Carlin / Bill Hicks / Jon Stewart of Doom.
A doomer with humor. I love it!”
-Lou

“You nailed it again,RE.”
-Craig Moodle

“Hilarious and my sentiments exactly. You rival George Carlin”
St Roy

“As St. Roy described it, “George Carlin of Doom.”
I like the fairly comprehensive overview of the topics that one could easily glean from the Doomstead Diner ”
-Blair Longley

“IMO you’ve provided more info and comically satisfying sarcasm than anyone else whose blog i’ve found. for several years i’ve saved reading your incredibly updated blog till last (after the NEWZ, armstrong, mish, supkis golem and undertow) as i didn’t want anywhere else waiting as i soaked up your daily dose of info and rant and the writers you’ve shared, especially escobar, blum, the uk-spain-denmark-uk guy, the seed-collector and the sailor.”
-TJ

“I save best of my daily blogroll visits – DD – to the last, a testament to relevance of content, intelligence of contributors and your very, very funny pov.”
-Renkon

“Another excellent rant from RE, hitting the nail on the head!”
-Blair Longley

“As a daily reader of all of the doomsday blogs, e.g. the Diner, Nature Bats Last, Zerohedge, Scribbler, etc… I must say that I most look forward to your “off the microphone” rants. Your analysis, insights, and conclusions are always logical, well supported, and clearly articulated – a trifecta not frequently achieved.”
-Joe D

I have read several good stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I surprise how much effort you put to make such a magnificent informative web site.
-Smith

“I enjoy your rants, RE. I like your style. Whoever said that DOOM can’t be humorous and entertaining at the same time. And anyway, what the hell, if we can’t laugh all the way to our own funeral then what fun was it anyway?”
-Northwest Resident

“RE: Excellent! Listening to the rant I really started to see The Big Picture of zero interest rates.”
-JB

“RE – You’re still the greatest self- promoter of all time.”
TimE

“Another great interview RE. I hope Mark will come back for a vidcast or another interview. I’d like to hear more about his work and local perspective. “
-JB

“Very timely and insightful”
Step Back

“Very nice site!”
-Pharma

“Very good rant, RE.”
Steve from Virginia

“Very insightful rant.”
-St Roy

“You are not alone I follow your blog since 2008. I learn a lot from Nicole Foss, George Möbus and others. We are still here and you are doing a fantastic job. Thanks. “
-Regina

“Thanks for the truth which is not what we get in Australia. “
-David Barnes

“Um…sorry to admit this but that 17 minutes that the average visitor to the diner spends is skewed by me logging in on my kindle, going to doomsted and falling asleep for 12 hours”
-Luke Werner

“Great Rant! You captured just about every absurdity imaginable for human life on the planet and weaved it into a very entertaining narrative.”
-St Roy

“Surly1, I throughly enjoyed your article. As I always enjoy writing of high caliber. “
-xhidharta

“Hello there! This post could not be written any better!”
-Smith

“Fckin awesome things here.”
-Smith

“I enjoyed your reading of “The Charge of the Light Brigade.”
-Blair Longley

“The 2nd insanity rant was even better than the 1st. You are definitely getting up there in George Carlin wit and audience appeal.”
-St Roy

“Accurate and succinct, Well done!!”
-Gerry Hiles

“This was a very interesting and provoking interview, and although it got overly personal at times, I can understand why – it’s a very painful subject.”
-Tagio

“Your best ever and above TSA rant”
-St Roy

“Oh my goodness! an amazing article dude.”
-Smith

“Another masterpiece delivered in entertaining George Carlin style.”
St Roy

“I have listened to several podcasts and your daily rants. Can’t wait for part II , of the Steve Ludlum interview. Thanks for a great website.”

Well, it certainly is a kick in the balls to the naysayers who having nothing good to say about "ignorant bloggers" but who never miss a day logging on to say it.

I keep forgetting to read the blog comments. I'm glad to see the feedback is good, even though I don't listen to much of the audio stuff. Most blog readers and listeners are probably uninterested in what those of us here behind the scenes are arguing about.

One thing you've got going for you, RE, is the sheer volume of material. Always something new to tune into. Most bloggers write something maybe once a week, tops. For doom hungry readers it isn't enough.

I'm providing Transcripts now with a few days delay for non-native speakers of English and for people who prefer to read rather than listen.  It was requested on the Blog.

Remember, RE, that you are sunlight deprived this time of year. That is a BIG DEAL for we Homo SAPS in regard to mood.  (http://www.pic4ever.com/images/301.gif)

Effect of sunlight and season on serotonin turnover in the brain.

Abstract

Alterations in monoaminergic neurotransmission in the brain are thought to underlie seasonal variations in mood, behaviour, and affective disorders. We took blood samples from internal jugular veins in 101 healthy men, to assess the relation between concentration of serotonin metabolite in these samples and weather conditions and season. We showed that turnover of serotonin by the brain was lowest in winter (p=0.013). Moreover, the rate of production of serotonin by the brain was directly related to the prevailing duration of bright sunlight (r=0.294, p=0.010), and rose rapidly with increased luminosity. Our findings are further evidence for the notion that changes in release of serotonin by the brain underlie mood seasonality and seasonal affective disorder.

RE, was the biophysical component to the supply demand equation intentionally left out of the equation (sinister, unquenchable greed) or just plain ignorance on the part of the Masters of the Universe?

This article is simply brilliant! I recently read “Environment, Power and Society by Howard Odum, a seventies work that incorporates the money component into the energy dynamic. That’s forty plus years ago and here we are.

Your work and Ludlum’s are the best I’ve come across and I’ve been at this long and hard for many years.

Any thoughts on how long the Canadian Tar Sands debacle can survive?

Your ability to deliver complex concepts in a succinct and understandable manner (with appropriate humor and irony) is truly amazing. Bravo!

Dear Mr. President, While I have to admit that no single one of the recent incidents of police using deadly force against minorities could be cited in and of itself as wrongful, the recent rash of such incidents shows there is still a predisposition by police to use more force against African-Americans and Latino Americans than they use against White Americans.

I have read accounts of Whites engaging in criminal mischief without being met with force, or in some cases without their even being arrested, while when minorities engage in similar behavior they are subjected to harsh enforcement. Profiling has no place in this century.

Thank you for your very kind note! Almost all of the direct feedback (not counting signatures of course, which is what counts) I have gotten has been overwhelmingly negative and sometimes even racist. I think most people get it, but it's the hostile ones who are the most vocal. Your comment was a breath of fresh air. :) Thank you!
Written from mobile - the phone, not the gas station.  ;D

Agelbert frames the pitch:

Help make America a decent place for ALL of us, not just the privileged; sign Nathan's petition and urge all your friends and family to sign it as well. The success of this petition would send a signal to every police department in the USA that we-the-people are NOT going to stand for their selective brutality of people of color.

@RE

NICE!

My favorite quote of yours this past year is from The Money Valve post on 5/25/14: “The way this plays out in real life is that country after country of consumers are triaged off the credit bandwagon” What a perfect description of how John Michael Greer’s “slow catabolic collapse” actually unfolds. The third quote that completes the puzzle is from Ernest Hemingway: “How did you go bankrupt? Gradually, then suddenly.

It reminds me of my days as an electrical engineer – hydrocarbon extraction is an energy pulse and industrial society behaves like a capacitor. The curve is one of exponential growth followed by logarithmic decay which starts off slowly, then gradually accelerates with a rapid decline at the end.

Stay thirsty, my friends…

Your commentaries, R.E., are getting better all the time, I prefer listening to you rather than reading because you spike your voice with that fucking anger that we -well, the ones of us that don’t buy the daily bullshit- feel. And you do it very well. Thks.

For those of you who only READ the transcripts, you miss quite a bit.  There's a REASON for doing these as Audio, beyond just making it convenient for people to Listen while they drive the morning commute.

Thanks and kudos to Monsta for jumping in and deleting spam from (former) member Michaelkees.

I approved a member request from what appeared to be a normal email address. Within seconds, spam appeared. I went under the hood to ban the perp's IP address, and by the time that was done, Monsta had nuked the remaining spam.

Thanks!

Title: Diner Testimonials: Latest from the Legacy Rant
Post by: RE on May 16, 2015, 06:33:37 PM
This one just came in from a Diner Lurker R. Numbereleven (http://www.doomsteaddiner.net/blog/2015/05/13/legacy/#comment-1420):

Quote from: R. Numbereleven
I continue to admire your long-standing commitment, originality and intelligence. As far as a legacy goes, you wrote an article on man's invention of the wheel a year or two ago, which I thought was absolutely brilliant. It has always stayed with me, and always will–as it discusses some mind-blowing questions I don't think have been raised before anywhere else. Your Legacy is probably already farther reaching than you know.

It's stuff like this that makes me want to KEEP ON GOING THROUGH HELL.  :evil4: :icon_sunny:

RE, you're a shining example of it's not win or lose (extinct or not extinct) but how you play the game.  remarkable that it takes a seriously injured solitaire to spar so deftly with neurotic egos and educated ids that would create a hell in any world i'd want to inhabit. if there's hope out there you bring it. kudos.  i love that you make me laugh and i actually have to leave the computer to savor my chuckles. there surely must be others out there, but in this world of ordinary people i am so glad there is you.  thanks buddy.  keep the torpedos coming."

Damn RE, you should put that at the top right of the Diner instead of your New Miranda Rights screed.  It helped me understand the economic situation a bit more.  Not sure how really, just a big picture sort of thing.  I think the above writing of yours deserves a place where it will be seen by many.  I think it's a good synopsis of what the Diner is ultimately about where reality is concerned.  Helping to break the great delusion that is our petroleum blip on the radar of human history.  \

The responsibility and there is responsibility, is to ourselves. No one else! Perhaps, in time, those closest to US will finally realize that our cynicism wasn't just a defect in our DNA, but a manifestation of our disgust with a society lost in its ability and desire to save itself from unnecessary ruin. For the few "True Chroniclers" of our time (you included RE) I sincerely hope their works live on well past their planetary time.

Congratulations to the ALL of the Diners who contribute, in one way or the other, to the website I consider my "Daily Bread."

A special note of congratulations to the mainstays (you know who you are) that provide the continual stream of important information, insight, dialogue and thoughtfulness as we wrestle with the most difficult issues of our time. The DD is an extraordinary multi-dimensional platform where intellect, argument, curiosity and humor intersect.

I look forward to many more more visits as well as making the odd comment here and there when the urge overwhelms me.

Like Paul P. (previous commenter) this is my first time commenting after many years of occasional lurking. I've enjoyed most of what I find here, though I rarely feel like I have anything to offer in the time I have available, so I've never signed in or commented before.  But this time I just had to respond to let you know you're appreciated more than you know. Especially (jeez I hope those goofy HTML code thingies work here or that last word's gonna look stupid…  We'll know when I submit) — as I was sayin', especially since you started your little collapse novel.  I gotta tell ya I'm not alone in enjoying it. I have friends, fellow diner lurkers, with whom this is now a favorite topic of conversation.  "Have you seen the latest installment yet?  Whaddaya think about the (insert story point here) that he brought into it?"  Good conversation starters to discuss or perhaps even (gods forbid!) criticize some aspect of the story. Heck, we loved Kunstler's World Made By Hand series (bought the books, pass them around to read and re-read) but holy sh#t! have we ever torn them to shreds (metaphorically only) where we don't like his thinking, as well as armchair psycho-analyzed the poor guy in the process. But man we loved them.  And now we have you!

From Bill Sodomsky in the "When I'm Gone" (http://www.doomsteaddiner.net/blog/2017/05/26/when-im-gone/#comment-6800) Blog Commentary:

Well RE, it's not easy to respond to such candidness and courage and yet I am compelled to. Death is a Motherfucker no matter how you look at it or experience it. Alone, surrounded by family, it's one tough journey unless of course it's unexpected and quick. Not so in your case and to read your recent imminent death chronicles has been morbidly intriquing. Sad… of course because to those of us who consider the "DD" daily bread we're sure as hell going to miss YOU! Content aside, you had me from the very first moment when I clicked on the site and saw you seated at the diner fur cap perched on your head yammering on about the sorry state of our world. Now there's a soul mate I said to myself and nothing that you've ever said or written about since, has ever changed my opinion of who you are or what you stand for.

Although this commentary is not meant be your eulogy because of course rumors of your demise would definitely be premature, it is an opportunity for me to extend some sincere sentiment in the form of a quote given in a recent speech by Congressman John Lewis commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Lewis stated, "He taught us all so much through his action, his words. He taught us how to live and he taught us how to die, that if you believe in something that is so precious and so necessary, you have to stand up for it, have to speak out." And that you did.

Not many us Roger will ever have the privilege of hearing about the effect our lives have had on those we have touched, but then very few of us will have the kind of courage and presence of mind you possess as you approach the end of your time on earth.

Good luck Big Guy and keep us updated as much as you can.

Your virtual friend,

Bill.

Hey RE, 61 is a great achievement.
And 62 (and 63, 64… etc) will be even better. Every additional day you remain above ground is valued by all the readers here (except for certain fucktard trolls). You are a credit to humanity, a source of rich and valuable ideas, expressed with vigor and humor. You have made mistakes in life (haven’t we all) but overall yours is a life well lived and we will be much poorer without you around. My message to you: keep on truckin’ !!

Hey EmptyPempty: Every day you remain above ground represents the existence of a worthless parasite and a braindead McSerpent parrot. You are a useless eater whose only value will be as fertiliser underground (assuming your toxic carcass does not poison the soil). My message to you: fuck off and kill yourself.
