The Kitchen Sink / Re: Culture of Ignorance: Part I
« on: October 01, 2017, 04:36:35 PM »
When I made my earlier post I was looking at Finland. In global league tables Finland is close to number 1 in teaching standards when it comes to maths, science and language. Now how does Finland do so well? The teachers are highly trained often holding master degrees, they have small classes and the teachers tailor their methods to the strength/weaknesses of their students. As you see you have a mix of clever teachers who are also given the freedom to apply their professional judgement on how to teach kids. Too often the problem in society is there is not enough incentives to get bright people into teaching and even if you get them into the profession they are undermined by the illogical guidelines peddled by the administrators.

I did suggest the means of attracting brighter folks was to raise salaries but the other method is to simply lower the pay of other occupations relative to teaching. The level of inequality is far lower in Finland than the US so the difference between a dentist or banker to teacher is not as great in Finland than America. By keeping the pay more equal your talent gets more widely distributed and is not so concentrated in certain occupations. Again though it comes to priorities. If you pay bankers 100 times more than teachers then society is sending a clear signal in what is valuable to society. I am not saying people must invest large sums in education but if you want a good service then you it needs to pay well relative to other high paying occupations. You need to be aware of market forces in thinking how talent gets distributed in society.

Then again as already stated; the educational system is unsustainable in the US or Finland. Moreover the skills taught are not going to be relevant in 20 years time so this is all academic. I just wanted to raise the point that if you want to make people educated and less ignorant then some sacrifices must be made. You can't have something for nothing.

"Teaching standards" or "student standards"?

I think investment bankers who make millions are like athletes or entertainers who make millions. You cant get just anyone to run fatser than others or create great music by paying them. They had the talent BEFORE they got rich. My filthy rich bankster cousin (who leaves her mama living in a falling apart old house and tells me "but I took her out to lunch!") was always a very motivated high achiever. From her grades in college she started off dealing with loans of minimum 1M$ or more. But while still in HS she worked at Target. She didnt expect to get paid like a banker to be a cashier.

Do you order fish and get chicken then say its ok because the waiter isnt paid the same as a banker? Do you tip the waiter everything you have because you think to do a simple thing right he should be paid like an INVESTMENT banker?

You can work for a bank with a very low entry level like teaching, as a teller.

If you want to make an incentive to get bright people into teaching make it harder to get into and harder to pass. As it is, its for people who barely graduate HS to be accepted. But so what? You only need to understand the material you present which is by definition BELOW university level.

Trying new things is the problem not the solution, they are always dodging the failings of illiterate graduates by trying new approaches. Its like govt depts do everywhere, Ive worked in them. No need to reinvent the wheel,

Uncle Bob

In a dusty warehouse, I have one of these under cover.

And one of these.

http://www.youtube.com/v/E-EegDylQSg&fs=1

And one of these.

No, I don't burn much fuel in them anymore. But I can't bear to part with them.

I didn't recognize the Rice Burner you were referencing. How about a pic?

Niiiiiiice hog, and the MGA would be light enough to electrify.

below foto was taken during a club "garage tour" mines the 2nd last in line.

This model was not sold in the US but the 1200 that replaced it was. the sedans you see as well as wagon and pickup went from 67 to 69 were sold in UK and canada as well. The coupe was made in 69 only and sold only in japan and oz. Extremely rare.

I was driving that in its original unrestored state as simply a very economical and easy to squeeze into too tight parking spaces city runabout when it cost 5$/week. The A series engine is similar size to the A series in your MGA and I lifted out the A10 and lifted in the A14 with my hands. Doing that kind of thing in my 20's and 30's has now gave me tendonitis after 40, so it owes me. Anyway I fully restored it myself, and am planning to get a kit from LA to make it electric.

These were engineered and built at the nissan truck plant, so though very light are also very tough and very simple and trucklike like a really old jeep and thats why many of us have a fetish for them. The fateful night I met mrs UB I had 5 girls in it to drop off all around campus and it did just fine with a 1litre motor. So even though Im going to use lithium ion for weight and space reasons, it probably would do fine with 108 volts of car batteries in the back, since the pickup and van are even rated to carry 1 ton.

I did not submit an answer on what they are FOR. So it is not post hoc, but u didnt even ask if az knew what they were BEFORE reading my answer as he suggests he did not. There was a premise there would be no square living space beside the van, precluding the most obvious answer, also knowing the van is already insulated and do not need to hold up anything inside.

By your reasoning anyone can now come and post the right answer and be equal first. I an not dusputing the result as i obviously didnt post it, because we were led to believe there would be no square living space beside the van. Post hoc justifications dont change faulty working premises.

Im not disputing the prize, as i didnt give the answer. i had the full answer from the start along with the possibility of holding insulation to the interior, but yours is already insulated. AZ just arrived at it because he needed a way to hold up his playboy centrefolds without putting tape or gum on the interior of his classic kombi.

I was actually about to write that before, say that u dont want a pull out awning because it is more obvious campervan, and u can attach tarps to the van with the magnets, keeping water from dripping between the van and extra room, fairly obvious. Then i remembered you saying you are only doing a dome and not the cube as well because its too much room. I figured the dome cant sit flat against the van, so didnt post. Based on premise a dome is being done to show the naysayers without any square living space, the answer cant be right.

U dont need any cheap clips, just fold thetarp under the magnet. Easier to pull off and wont chip paint.

Floor to ceiling stall requires individual light and ventilation. It is also a better place for voyuers to set up cameras, as nobody can disturb the one in there putting it in the ceiling or vent or fan. It is also a good place to rape without getting caught, less sight and sound of struggle. Rapist just needs to stand at sink doing makeup or follow victim into bathroom. This is not about bathrooms though. As eddie pointed out we have agendas and narratives dictated to us, so banning the use of 'ladies and gentlemen' in workplaces, 'boys and girls' in schools and fines for using 'he/him/she/her' are already in place. Signs in rainbow painted subways say it is an lgbtq friendly, bigotry free space. You are a bigot if you are a straight man but refuse to have sex with a woman with a penis. No such noises about lesbians being bigots for not having sex with women with penises, or straight women not wanting men with boobs...yet, bwahahaha!

You can also coach a 2nd tier gymnast with a Y chromosome to a womens gold medal, as is happening in weightlifting, running and boxing already. Feminists are being forced to declare whether they are TERF (trans exclusionary) and if not must give back priviledges to biological males without complaint. The downside is the annual doubling of school age children going trans and interrupting puberty by taking hormones, so there is no real going back. I think environmental and lifestyle factors responsible for increasing androgyny play a part in this, but so do feminist teachers favourable treatment of girls.

As knarf said, this was not the orthodoxy before ww2. Ww3 otoh will be lost by the lgbtq army, which must provide for breastfeeding in battle and if anyone feels the war begun by bush/cheney/rumsfeld now 17 yrs and counting is not worth putting their head above the parapet for, can simply say they are transitioning and get a pass.

Now that makes sense.
If the outer skin of the airbag is made of that same material that those cloaking devices are using
than that could be the answer.

Have u ever seen anything unidentified AZ?

Lets sort the bullshit specifically hey?

I brought up the possibility the zippo fluid could blow up in your face. Thats bullshit. I said i didnt know it doesnt, like gasoline. I can admit what i dont know.

Here's what you said:

I didnt know lighter fluid was safe to put your face over and light up, or is cheap.

Now moving on...

Quote
That was 50c worth. Bullshit. Its like 7$ a litre and that was like 200 ml.

The bottle cost $2 at Walmart. I used about 1/4 of the bottle. I ALSO said I only used so much for the visual effect. Normally I would use half of that amount or less.

Quote
I said the rocks were a good idea. But stay hot all night, bullshit again, which you would know if you were really spending a week boondocking like i have actually done in what was also clearly a camper.

They'll stay hot all night in an insulated box. The question is how much you can raise the internal temperature of the van letting out a little heat at a time.

Quote
I dont know how to make a fire too (without cheating). Bullshit.

I never said you don't know how to make a fire.

Quote
Anyone keeping it real in the slightest cant stay now, so im gone too. Dont ask me again to come back and contribute, because you cant keep from biting the fingers off the hand that feeds this site.

I never asked you to come back. Why would I do that? You're a jerk.

RE

So as u see there never was a claim that lighter fluid would go voosh like it does in the movies when they set people on fire with it. But i am now just as knowkedgeable as you with the shit, like millions of other people and only an idiot would brag about something so mundane.

Saying u did it for effect is more bullshit. You told the people watching to use a lot, and that was in context of cheap livng. 5c is cheap, not 50 if theyre struggling.

If you were not saying i cant make a fire, why say i have not experienced it.

Yes its a QUESTIONof how warm you can keep it. Saying it WILL stay warm all night was bullshit.

Yes Im a jerk, you got THAT right. But i recall when i recently demurred, you even saying i should do stealth posting when everyone is asleep if they dont like my wasting time on dd. Ive told people in the past to read here to learn about collapse. I could still be getting checked on. That is why if you try and build yourself up by bringing me down, i will slam you straight back harder.

I am in devonport and instead of leaving this morning i left last night and slept in the car. Its only down to 7c not -7 like my place, so i thought that was ok to do. This stuff on the windows plus using the steel mesh cargo barrier with rubber back picnic mat to seperate the front from back.

A young cop came and asked what i was doing in an otherwise empty carpark when i was getting organised, he didnt mind, but then i had a legit reason.

"There's a lot you don't know. I used about $.50 of lighter fluid for that demo, but that was just for effect. I could have got away with less than half of that and got the fire going. In fact, if I started small with a few sticks of downed branches, I could have started it with one little squirt of less than $.05. Don't fuck with me on this topic UB, I know a LOT more than you do on this one. I already LIVED this life for 7 years, I speak from experience."

I didnt know lighter fluid comes for 2$ a litre, maybe discounted with a 5$ bag of wood. I didnt know u are allowed campfires at truckstops. I

I didnt know youre allowed to burn those expensive bags of firewood at truckstops, while u keep warm by idling a 16 litre engine. That doesnt teach u to keep your face to the side of the accelerant. I only know about felling trees cutting them up with a chainsaw and axe, stacking it all and using kindling i keep dry ahead of time with a piece of newspaper or piece of naphthalene worth 5 cents to start a fire most nights, 6 months of the year.

If you cant understand constructive criticism is not about mine vs yours, i can not comment.

There is no constructive criticism in your posting, only attempts to deconstruct, which are immense failures every time.

No, you can't make fires in a ring in Truckstops, but you most certainly can set up your charcoal grill in the parking lot. You never did this shit UB, I DID IT. I KNOW how lighter fluid lights up, I have been using that shit since I was 10 years old. I am not in the least bit worried it will blow up in my face. Only a complete idiot who doesn't use the stuff would think it would do that. It's NOT gasoline! lol.

The bag of firewood was NOT expensive, in fact I got it for FREE! :icon_sunny: I explain how in the full video.

So go fuck yourself because you are simply firing out of your asshole and no nothing of what you speak.

Anyone with a guess on how I solved the problem of moving heat generated from a campfire to inside SaVANnah?

RE

Place van directly over fire, like face lol. I thought that was going to go voosh!!! like petrol.

Your gas tank would explode. Not a good solution. That's a Darwin Award Winner.

RE

Yeah we both know 'gas' goes Voosh! I didnt know lighter fluid was safe to put your face over and light up, or is cheap. But kudos on the hot rocks and nice campsite.

Im guessing u have thick curtains on the windows? Also 2 windscreen sun blockers, 1 the type that goes over the outside as well as 1 pop out type to put on the inside would help keep heat in. I know rental camper van gets cold as soon as heater is off.

I dont think u need a motel if its really cold. My 65cc, 750w 2stroke generator runs for 4 hrs on 1 litre of fuel and powers a 2 bar heater. For me a litre costs as much as a gallon for you,
3-4 litres. 1 or 2$ gets you through the whole night. Theres no stealth with a generator puttering away outside though. I doubt that is burning more fossil fuel than the motel room to stay warm. The great thing about that el cheapo is it idles and increases revs as needed, unlike others i see which just run fast all the time.
